Hi Folks!
Looking for "adult supervision"...want to put a new travel affiliate web site together and am getting completely confused as to what software product to buy to accomplish my goals...
Already have dabbled around with WordPress for a recent site and Front Page for my original site that is very, very local.
Ros has about three or four options listed on her site. I've looked at them all and am more confused than ever.
Want something that is going to allow me article submission (ArticleLive ?), have great templetes (XSitePro2 ?), and have the ability to add a Blog (Revolution ?) Not sure I need a Forum as I cannot figure them out myself...hope I'm doing this one right!
Anyone out there that has used any of these programs with success? Would certainly appreciate any feedback I can get, because I can't waste much more time and money to find out what's right....
Looking forward to hearing from anyone who may have some insight. Thanks so much! |

Hello Elaine
There are Content Management Systems (CMS) which have all of that and more built into them. One of those is Joomla! It is rated one of the best CMS packages.
If your web host uses cPanel control center for your website, log in there and look for a button named Fantastico. That is a software installation program. With a few clicks and some preferences set, the CMS can be installed. |

When I have to make these decisions I think about how I want the site to function, the programs I've used and whether or not I have time to learn a new one.
If you need a blog then Wordpress is a no brainer. But if uploading a static site with advertising and new content is the way the site is being constructed then I love xsite pro2 and the new functions - especially the clean up feature (where the program will clean up the hosting account of all files not currently being used).
But if you want both you can always use both. Just load a blog in another folder. There just isn't a real right or wrong answer from my perspective. It boils down to what you like to use, how you want to use it, how it should function and how comfortable you are using it.
Ahh.... I didn't answer at all did I? But I don't know that anyone really can for you - I think the answer is really up to you. And since I'm really opinionated and don't have an opinion I must be right - right??????
OK - hope you know I'm just kidding about being always right!
Warmly,
Gail |

Elaine-
You need to start somewhere. Pick the CMS you feel the most comfortable with and start doing something. You've said you'd used WordPress before, so why not continue with it? The price is right.
With the right theme a WordPress blog should be able to do all you require. There are great templates available, many free. Posts are essentially articles, it is just a matter of how you present them in the theme. You can make a Wordpress site mimic a static site fairly easily, if that is your desire.
If you are talking about article submission for link building, that is something you do outside of your website framework.
Sites grow and change over time and I find I can easily change the look and feel of my WordPress sites without disturbing the content at all. The important thing is to take action and don't let technical confusion get in the way.
It isn't so much what site building solution you use, it's what you do with it that counts. Taking action trumps confusion any time. You have to start somewhere, so start small and see where you grow.
