Well, I'm so torn between using Clickbank and PayDotCom to market my upcoming ebook, that I am considering setting up 2 mirror sites, and using both. (If that is the correct way to express it...)

Has anyone ever done this? Would I be able to see an example of it? (PM me please if it's a secret!) Are there any potential complications in doing this?

Thanks!

Hello Ellen

That's a good question and I'm not sure if there is an exact answer for you. What I can do is tell you what I've found by doing some testing on a site.

When I had both ClickBank and PayPal links on the same page, my sales dropped off to next to none and I received feedback from visitors asking how they should order. Having 2 payment options, both accepting credit cards and PayPal payments, confused people.

So I removed all but ClickBank so I could also have the option of using an affiliate program. It's not the lowest overall cost to sell, but the lowest option using an affiliate program. Check out the comparison below. If you want to offer multiple payment methods, I recommend having each one on a separate page.

** Cost To Sell **
Sale Price: $17
ClickBank ($1 + 7.5%) => $2.28
PayPal (2.9% + $0.30) => $.79
StormPay non-NetIBA Certified (6.9% + $0.69) => $1.86
StormPay NetIBA Certified (2.9% + $0.39) => $.88

PayDotCom ($2.00) with PayPal => $2.79
PayDotCom ($2.00) with StormPay (non-NetIBA Certified) => $3.86
PayDotCom ($2.00) with StormPay (NetIBA Certified) => $2.88

Highest Cost: PayDotCom (non-NetIBA Certified)
Lowest Cost without Affiliate Tracking: PayPal
Lowest Cost with Affiliate Tracking: ClickBank

Ellen,

become your own "affiliate"

Set up 2 sites, both slightly different.

Use paydotcom and paypal for one site and clickbank (who offer their own payment processing and paypal built in) on the other.

You can even start a discount war with yourself for fun as it has proven to work well. Go high on price on one and low on the other and test, then do it the other way around.

This is a well know technique and you can see it as doing a split test on a site level (instead of tweaking just the web page).

Hi Ellen,
One thing I have learned in online marketing is that you should never be "torn" over what to do. Just do something and test, test, test. Don't waste time fretting.

The idea that Kenth gave is a good one.

Remember it's not just the cost but what you get for it. From what I can tell PayDotCom gives more statistics to the merchant and affiliates. ClickBank in my opinion is archaic and holds back a lot of the data which could make the affiliates, the merchants, and ClickBank themselves a lot more money.

Cheers,
Peter

After posting the comparison, I realized that PayDotCom provides more affiliate tools than the others, making them more valuable. Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks all, for your contributions!

Yes, the PDC tools make it much more valuable than Clickbank in that way... on the other hand, Clickbank has lots more affiliate marketers looking for digital products to promote!

Best-

Hi Ellen, Hi All,

Sorry for my late entry into this topic.

I agree with Kenth that two sites should be set up if you wish to use both systems.

It would be unfair for your Clickbank affiliates to send traffic to the site and have your visitors pay through a system where they don't get credit.

That's a good way to have affiliates drop your program.

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
Ros

Thanks, Ros!

Yes, I will register 2 domain names, and use one for CB and the other for PDC.

I'm almost done my Weight-Loss ebook, I keep thinking of more awesome information to add, and can't stop! This is going to be an incredible book, it should be ready in early February, I'm really excited!

Hi Ellen,
What tools have you found to be useful in making the e-book, cover, etc.

Thanks,
Peter

I wrote the ebook based upon my own personal experience with my dieting.

Kidino did the site for me, his site is: http://diyminisite.com/

I meant tools to actually make the e-book (acrobat or something else?), the cover (software or hired someone), etc.

Thanks,
Peter

Ok, so I bought www.willpower-secrets.com (I already own www.willpowersecrets.com without a hyphen) to use for one affiliate program.

Now... Which site should I promote more heavily, in my byline at the end of my articles, etc? The Clickbank site or the PDC site? Does it matter? Which would you choose?

Make two versions - one for each with slightly different wording. Just an idea.

Btw, did you ever answer my original question? I'm thinking of writing an ebook but not sure what are some "must have" tools to make it...

Thanks,
Peter

Creating an ebook is easy Smile

I write in Microsoft Word and convert to pdf with http://www.gohtm.com/

You can hire out the cover graphic from any good designer.

I think it's more challenging to sell an ebook than to create one Wink
