Hi,

I'm wondering if any of you have used site submission services ? And if you did, were you satisfied with its results ? Has it brought more traffic to your site or business ?

For instance, have you tried WebPosition or WebPositionGold ?

One reason why I'm making this inquiry is cause WebPositionGold was mentioned in the Super Affiliate Handbook.

However, I also have some concerns that the following was also mentioned on the same page in the Handbook about this supposed warning on Google's site:

"Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our terms of service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPositionGold that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google".

I'm not sure what to make of it ? Thus I figured I'd get the update in here and so forth.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Daniel

I stumbled across an amazing site submission service that is Free and I have had terriffic results... Both my sites were listed with Yahoo and Google within the first week of submission... I don't know if that is because of the submission service or just good luck... but I'm definately a happy camper.
The fellow who owns the submission service is very personable (kinda funny) and has a ton of information to teach you all about site submission. Self Promotion is the name of the submission service and as I said it's a Free service so you can check it out at your leisure and compare it to other services. I found it very easy to figure out and navigate around and sometimes I'm a very slow learner! Laughing

I submitted my site to google myself, took less than 5 mins and it was listed through them to the major search engines within a day. And that was also free.

Yes, that's true boysbach, what I should have also mentioned is that submitting to almost all of the search engines is free if you do it yourself, but you need to resubmit to each search engine every couple of months.

Once you have a few websites up and running, submitting to them all manually can become quite a chore. The benefit of using a site submission service is that you fill out all your information ONCE, register each of your websites, check off the search engines you want to submit to, and bingo, it's all done automatically. With the Self-Promotion service, you can subscribe for a year and they'll auto re-submit your site to the search engines every 8 weeks... Set and forget!

I started out with the Free service, but upgraded my account so I wouldn't have to worry about resubmission... The time I'd spend submitting and re-submitting is worth a lot more than the small annual fee I paid.

So yuppers... definatley a couple of ways to go depending on time, money and patience! Very Happy

Callie I have only submitted mine once and it is still there 12 months later. yes it can be a pain but I have found that when I used a company that submitted it for me, places like yahoo rejected it even though it was hosted by yahoo. Now yahoo submit it automatically if you host with them. Many hosting companies also submit free. We have taken a new url for our UK site www.robbev.co.uk and that is hosted by a different company and they have a free submission package with it. I found submit to the major ones and all the little ones get added to. I get spidered (is that the right word) daily from a number of search engines not just yahoo, google, msn and ask.

Bev, do you mean with the submission service you used, or the manual submission to the major SE's?

From what I understand, submitting to the major SE's doesn't necessarily guarantee you'll get crawled by some of the minor SE's, it's best to submit to them to make sure.

I think in most cases if you're getting a fair bit of traffic, then certainly, you won't have to worry about re-submitting, the SE's will keep ya no prob... but with slow traffic sites re-submission doesn't hurt. Actually good point about Yahoo... I manually submit to them... it's recommended. But I have the rest set automatically so I don't have to give it a second thought. That's my main point when it comes to site submission services... The more sites you have, the nicer it is to have it set on auto. Perhaps for a newbie to internet marketing, it would also have the same appeal - one less thing to worry about until they get their feet under them. And if the service is Free, all the better. Very Happy

Callie both because it seems that a lot of the smaller search engines get their information from the larger ones like yahoo, msn, google and the like. I have people coming on a regular basis to my site all unique IP from search engines I have never heard of and I used to use a company to submit and I checked the list of theirs which was extensive and none were on there. Example we had someone come from a search engine in Northern Mariana Island, now I didn't know where they were never mind that they had their own search engine.

Hello Daniel and all,

Sorry that I didn't respond to your request ealier. I've been in the Mexican boondocks for the past month without a phone or reliable Internet connection.

I used to use WebPositionGold extensively until I saw those warnings.

Still, many folks do continue to use the product. I know one gentleman who has used it continuously since the late 90's and his sites do very well by it.

I added the caveat to warn of possible problems with the program but hope my readers will make good choices based on the potential for difficulties with Google.

In a nutshell however, I don't use any submission services these days.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Rosalind
