While you can add a lot to a Squidoo site, you have little control over the design. Some people do very well with Squidoo, while others do better with their own sites.

Another thing to keep in mind is the URL. On Squidoo, you are actually advertising their services. Yours are just a part of the site, versus getting your own domain and allowing your visitors to focus on you.
