Probably Rosalind is really busy now, as I contacted her a few days ago. Would like some constructive ideas on how to generate traffic and sales to my site.

Yes I bought Rosalind's book about 5 years ago(?) and got swamped with life in Tokyo. I was thinking of re-reading it, however the volumn of stuff that I attempt to read is killer.

I'm pretty busy 6 days a week with language instruction and badly attempting online law school.

If I take incremental steps, the site might do okay income wise, people seem to like the written work, The site was designed by a Japanese artist and programmed by an English speaker - I know zero about programming, I guess I have to learn some.

Would an affiliate be interested? How to begin?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

the site: www.1001kisses.com

Thanks

Hi Ansel -

I'm going to take a stab at this. Ros and others can do a much better job but you're stuck with me right now Laughing

The home page of the site has some beautiful colors (or at least my choice anyway) but it doesn't give the reader enough information. Most people aren't willing to delve around a site for information anymore - people want to know within seconds what they have stumbled upon.

That said the graphic on the front is too big. There isn't a way to gather an email address from them on the first page and the paragraph below the graphic is too long - break it up.

I should back this up - I'm speaking from a Western standpoint. If you are targeting Asian and Western men and women there may be a difference in how the page is perceived.

That first page has to grab them with more than pictures - unless you're just selling porn - which it appears you aren't. Put up a headline that tells the reader why they NEED to read your book. And then don't make them hunt for the paypal button.

Your female audience may like to see the guy with his shirt off too.

Under links - the last link goes to an adsense page

Information on the 'About the book" page could be translated to the first page to get people to look further.

About the optin for an ezine - you are going to lose people who surf over, don't have time to read now and will think "I'll come back later." Give them a digital product in exchange for their email address so you can send email to tell them more about the book.

Check out Ros' site - www.sage-hearts.com for a great example of tempting a person to opt in to her list. The box is above the fold, she's giving great content for people interested in online dating and it's easy.

I hope that gives you some ideas about the site itself. I know you are looking for traffic too but if they come and you don't capture their attention and email you'll be leaving money on the table.

Once you have the site to your satisfaction remember to test it. Use Google Analytics to evaluate the people who are coming, where they enter your site, where they leave, how much time they spend. It's free and a great resource.

About traffic and affiliates. Be ready to tell affiliates how you are setting cookies (affiliate tracking program you are using) and for how long. If you aren't using a program you can set the site up with Clickbank. They do a fine job of managing your affiliate commissions and payouts. This helps to calm the fears of people who want to sell for you but not sure that they'll be paid.

At Clickbank you are also in front of affiliates looking for products to sell. Think about listing in other affiliate directories. This niche should do well with article marketing. You might think about advertising at Craigslist and US Free Ads - and follow their TOS.

I hope I didn't overstep what you asked for. I just sort of got on a role talking over here. If there isn't someone to stop me I'll go on all night Smile

Warmly,

Gail

hi gail!!

no you didn't overstep, thanks!

a step at a time.

i've thought about a site redesign. i'm using old pMachine. the expense of a redesign kind of scares me. but no choice i think. i'll have to pay someone, how do i screen for someone reputable on elance.com?

targeting both asian and western markets. i can have separate sites.

Your choices are to learn to do it yourself and to hire it out. If you hire it out you may not be able to make changes as they are needed. There are several good programs available that are WYSIWYG programs - What You See Is What You Get - in other words if you can use Microsoft Word you can use these programs. The program translates to html behind the scenes. Very helpful.

You could also find a person who will build it and teach you to use a program. I actually know someone who may do that but I'm not sure I can give the recommendation in the forum????

As far as getting a reputable person - is there someone from whom you could ask a referral? Maybe someone on this forum has a programmer/web designer they use. You may try using a template? You could build on a Wordpress blog theme since you are adding news to the site which would get you more attention from Google - who loves blogs.

There are a couple of places to learn to use Wordpress to set up a static site with a blog page where the news would sit. Can't think of a one of those off hand though!

Affiliate software is available. Someone else would have a good recommendation for you. JVManager is beast but it is also pricey. I run most of my stuff through either amember (because they are memberships) or through Clickbank who manages the affiliate stuff for me.

Take care and just asking questions - takes a bit to get it all down Smile

hi gail

looked at ros's site. liked it, very clean.

you mean clickbank can manage ALL affiliate relationships for example with match.com(saw on ros's site) or do sites have thier preferred software systems?

i have to really consider who i link to(affiliate with?) because my site isn't porn related.

may i look at your site?

thanks!

Hi Ansel -

Caught me still at the computer Smile

Clickbank will manage an affiliate program for your product but if you want to sell for Match.com you will enroll in their affiliate program and use your affiliate link for their program on your site or email or however you are advertising.

I actually run a PLR site for health and wellness content because I'm a nurse practitioner - easy fit. I worked in marketing and PR at a hospital for four years (loved it!) and made the transition to IM several years ago.

I have a blog at www.PLR-Health-Wizard.com/blog and the sales page is the link without /blog.

Take care!

Gail
