Does submitting to directories increase traffic to your website?

Hi Chastill!

While you didn't specify what type of directory you are referring to (e.g. search engine, article, etc.), the more places you get your name out there the better chance people have of finding you, and your site(s) getting indexed, so the general answer to this question is "Yes". Now whether or not that traffic is targeted will depend upon the specifics of what you are submitting, and to which directories. (Hopefully you are trying to target specific traffic and not just throwing something on the wall to see if it sticks, heh, heh.)

That said, if you're submitting articles, the directories/categories you submit to should be those that best match your subject matter, if search engines, then submit to any and all that you can.

You can also submit press releases for your site(s).
