Subdomains

I'm a little embarrassed about this ?, but what is a subdomain? What are the uses and benefits?

Sub-domains are those that come before the primary domain name.
Example: bob.yoursite.com instead of yoursite.com/bob

Sub-domains are useful for keeping the site organized. For example, my blogs are generally in a sub-domain because it puts the content in its own space.

Many large sites also use sub-domains, including Google (googleblog.blogspot.com but not so much on their main site), Yahoo! (groups.yahoo.com, answers.yahoo.com) and others.

Another reason to use sub-domains is to put the theme before the domain, such as blog.yoursite.com. Something like that tells you immediately what you will be visiting.

Thanks for the info on subdomains, I totally get it now and their importance and benefits. This is such a cool site. Everyone so helpful and I even met a neighbor from counciltucky!!!
