Hi,

I'm finding it a bit confusing with the affiliate links.

If I have a storefront where people are buying products from different affiliates, won't this mean that the visitors/shoppers will have to check out and pay for various items separately?

For example, Amazon links vs clickbank links versus my own product links (paid via Paypal)?

Aren't customers used to picking out all their items and then paying for them all at one time?

Blue skies,

Yes they will have to check out individually. While that is not a problem if they are only buying one item, those who want to purchase multiple items will find it complicated to buy them individually. If they even choose to make their purchases that way, I doubt they will come back for more.

The only time I can see allowing affiliate links other than your own in a store front is if you are using it as an incentive to join a membership program that you run.

Otherwise, all links in the store front should be your affiliate links. If they are products you want to offer, then get affiliate links for them.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the quick reply though.

Kelly,

As an affiliate marketer your main goal is to pre-sell. Basically you are providing extra information for your customer (product reviews, personal experiences with the product, etc.) to get them to jump off the fence and buy.

If you have a storefront with multiple items then what is going to make your customer click on that item. I can guarantee you it is not going to be the item name and nice little picture.

In addition when you have a lot of items on a page that are not closely related your potential customer will hit the back button as fast as possible because they don't want to have to sift through all the information.

It has been said by many people in the affiliate marketing arena that "you cannot be everything to everybody". You need to concentrate on one niche.

Look at some of the sites the gurus of affiliate marketing have and study their webpages and links. Ask yourself these questions when you look at their sites:
How many items are they selling?
How are these items related? One niche or more?
Do they have banners, adsense, advertisements other than the products they are promoting?
Where does each one of these links take me? To a page with a review, an article or to the merchant?

Look at your competion and see what they are doing. If they have a 1st page rank in Google they must be doing something right.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Michael,

Thanks for the info and helpful direction.

I originally asked the question because I was reading Ros' travel blog and she seemed to have links to several different products (purses, travel, gadgets, etc.) and I was curious as to how one would manage that.

I'll keep plugging on though. Thanks again.

Blue skies,

Kelly
