Hey Gang!

Who has used / seen Jonathan Leger's "gistweb"? If ya haven't, check it out, it's pretty slick (and f'ree at: gistweb.com)!

Now, who knows a program / programmer that can do the same thing with video!?!

Being a pretty good speed-reeder, I don't have as much use for Jon's slick app as I do for a program that will strip an alleged "informational / instructional" video down to it's gist.

[rant] I am "sick to death" of wasting my valuable time watching 60 plus minute videos only to get 5 minutes of real, USABLE information! Evil or Very Mad [/rant]

Anyone out there know of such a grail?

While I do not know if there are utilities currently available to analyze videos, there are some sites that claim to have the ability to search for related photos, just by uploading one to their site.

With that technology, videos will follow. The software would have to analyze both audio and video, extracting the areas with the most matches. Those are the ones that repeat themselves.

Normally with videos though, the primary topic is shown within the first minute. That reduces the time to know if you are truly interested in watching the rest of it.

I agree with this in general, but have had to view a rather suprising number of videos that DON'T give up the gist so early on.

This is one of the reasons I personally like text files better. Even without speed reading or gistweb (and I'll say again that Jonathan has a winner there), at least I can perform a search of the document for the keywords of the subject I'm trying to clarify.

Thanks for the reply!

Griff
