My name is Angela and I live in Alberta
I am very new to internet marketing and have signed up with a site to promote them. I'm still in the learning phases of things and reading lots. I just got back from the Okanogan from visiting and it's nice to know Rosiland is close by. Maybe next time I'm there we can do coffee.
Good luck to everyone in your quest for wealth. |

Hello Angela!
Don't hesitate to share your questions, answers and progress reports.
There are lots of helpful folks here and lots of information to benefit from on your path to success, and I'm reasonably sure Rosalind would take you up on the coffee if you're in her neck of the "North Woods".
Welcome to the forum!

At present I work full time 12 hours of shift work and my job allows me a week off every 2 weeks.....nice. I'm an LPN and work at a very unique Palliative Care facility, the only one of it's kind in North America.
Both LPN and Palliative Care services are in need of some serious recognition from the public. I'm not sure how to go about marketing them. How do you make money promoting yourself. These are two causes I can promote until I'm blue in the face but people still think I only clean bed pans......far from it.
Any suggestions or should I just stick to finding something I can physically sell like weight loss products etc.
Thanks |

Hi Angela
Participating in discussion forums is a good start. Get a website set up with a blog. Put links to those in your forum signatures and email signatures.
Write articles about your industry and post them on your blog. Unique articles can be submitted to article directories like ezinarticles.com and goarticles.com. When you submit articles to those sites they look for duplicates, so you cannot put them on your blog first. You can add them after being listed on those sites though.
If you have a video camera or web cam, create some movies, even short ones, that show what goes on in your industry. Post the videos to YouTube with related keywords and good descriptions. People can then search YouTube for that industry and find your videos.
You can even put your videos in the blog articles to draw traffic and keep visitors there longer.
There are many ways to marketing online, but those are some of the best.

Thanks Jim,
Great advice, having been in the nursing profession for over 20 years, I know how we neglect ourselves. We don't eat, sleep properly and the stress....
Thanks for the info about starting a blog. I have a plan to start one then market some items to the nursing community such as instant shakes we can down on the go and all that kind of jazz.
Do you have any idea how long it takes to get a web site published and viewable on Google? I think it's where I'll start.
Thanks for the help.

Using a blog you can get listed in Google within a few hours. That depends on the sites you have set in the Update Services section in WordPress.
When you publish a new post, WordPress automatically notifies all the sites that you list. By default, WordPress is installed with just one site. I recommend adding others though.
Some of the more popular sites are shown at http://codex.wordpress.org/Update_Services

Great to meet a fellow Canadian. You're already getting some great advice here, Angela.
You seem to have a very unique background and this would make for a fantastic health site if you ever put one together in the future.
It is true that you should incorporate a blog into your site. You can develop some good traffic this way, and it's true that WordPress is a great place to start. They have some great tools and resources available to help you.
Best of luck with putting this all together. The health care system isn't the best, so it's great to have a voice out there fighting to make it better. |

Hi Angela,
(That's my wife's name as well )
You sound like one that really has some passion to share.
I think you will find great success if you follow it.
| Quote: | | published and viewable on Google? I think it's where I'll start. |
This is not where you should start.
In fact, ignore the search engines all together.
You have a voice with a specific thing to say,
so saying it is where you should start.
You do need to focus in on a specific are of the market,
but I wouldn't even consider this until you have
your blog up and a bit of "hello world" content posted.
This is not a normal recommendation!
I just happen to know that the nursing market has
a lot of areas that you can explore later.
So, in this case, you won't develop a site,
and then later find your work was for nothing.
Because your broad target is a viable one.
I would like to hear your voice.
And see you develop some design skills.
This is where I recommend you start.
Put up your blog, and let us see it.
K?
If you don't have a domain yet,
use a hosted wordpress blog.
And later, after narrowing down your target,
you can move the content over to your domain.
(If you want)
Never start with the search engines.
Although they are part of the market research,
they can't be the goal.
You will lose track of your goals
and get stuck in information overload.
Believe it. It's sneaky that way
The search engines are easy enough to understand.
But learn that later.
Learn what you need to know right now.
And only what you need right now.
Worry about the rest when you need it.
(my biggest lesson, wish I would have learned it earlier )
I was in nursing for about 8 years, so I know what it takes.
I know you're a caring person, with a passion to help others.
THIS, is what it takes.
Not special 'techy' knowledge.
Remember that, K?
Good luck!
And keep us posted!!
Brad. |

Thanks Brad for your great advice. I've been tweaking my blog. I now am getting it up and running. Takes a bit of time because my expertise is stabbing people with needles and such not being technical but I'm slowly getting it.
I have some content on it but I'm having to transfer files from another site so it's not great yet.
You're right about the "caring" part, I work in a Palliative Care centre that is the only one of it's kind in North America. I'm hyped about spreading the word about that let me tell you.
This forum is great for info and I'm learning a great deal. Thanks all.
