Hello folks!

I am in the process of trying to get my two remaining brain cells in synchronous orbit around a Joomla! site ultimately (hopefully) allowing me to consolidate and more easily maintain the various projects that I have been working on.

I would appreciate any and all feedback on it. Don't pull any punches (if it would have to get a whole lot better just to suck, please say so 'cause then it can only get better, heh). While the site is not "live" to the public, all the currently shown features are enabled. Please feel free to test them so I can see if I've missed or botched anything up. The header banner & logo will also be done professionally at some future point (so please don't tell me how lame they are, I already know, heh heh).

[shameless plug] The Hostmonster ad IS working, so don't click if ya don't mean it (but thanks if ya do!Wink) [/shameless plug]

The link is: http://eclecticresources.com/index.php

We now return you to your regular busy schedules!

Thank you for taking time to have a look and provide your input! I agree, I don't like the header either, but it's just temporary until I can hire someone to make me a REAL one (I lack the software and skills to do it myself, heh heh).

Hey Griff,

Nice layout. I'll say that.
Don't know if it's a standard Joomala layout,
or your doing, but it looks good.

BUT, for responsiveness, there are a few things to adjust.
SO, responsiveness being the point,
we need to know what response you are seeking.

I'm not sure what your goal is with this site.
It's kinda vague.
Is it just a collection of information your building?
Or do you plan to monetize the site?

The site states:
Quote:
Provide as much information as possible to give you a starting point for realizing your dreams

This makes me think it's a marketing resource page.
(maybe that's just because my brain works that way. LOL!)

Anyway, there aren't any "resources" really,
just articles on various unrelated stuff.
And the link to hostmonster.
And I'm guessing that it's a stretch to think
that people looking for information on renewable energy,
would also be interested in hosting.

I guess I want to know your goal with the site.
Because you seem to lack a specific target.
BUT, no worries friend.
This isn't a problem.
Let's just get the goal defined first,
and we will work together from there.

K? Very Happy

Let me know.
Brad.

ps- I can help with the header image if you like Wink

Thank you for your response Brad, I really appreciate it!

[insomniacs take note] Now, to answer your questions:

I wish I could take the credit, but it is a very slightly modified free Joomla template called parkweb2 that I copped from: http://www.joomla24.com/index.php (and yeah, they have over 1500 of 'em, I looked at MOST of 'em prior deciding on parkweb2).

I can easily understand why the goal appears invisible LOL, (that's one of the reasons it's not "live"), read on. . .

This entire site is for me to learn and practice, here are the underlying goals for the site, and some (derailed-trains-of) thought on the objectives:

1. Learn Joomla, css, and php, and how to manipulate the template css, php and HTML files (still can't find the HTML file I need to edit out something that came wth the template), so I can create my own formats & features and put what I want where I want it, e.g. how to insert Adsense blocks (and hosting banner ads, heh heh) in the text or in a side panel, (under a header), etc.

2. Learn and practice writing skills, for informational, educational and promotional (read: squeeze) purposes, and try to define and develop my "style" (and not make run-on sentences like #1 above).

3. Monetize eventually, via affiliate marketing for products related to the listed topics, through linked-text bubble windows, through the metasearch engine I am working on that only searches my affiliate vendor's products, and Adsense. I also have some non-IM products of my own that I will be promoting.

While I may put in an IM section, the site will not be geared specifically toward the "Make Money On Line" genre. It will be more of a "tips & free tools" information section with a just few reviews and affiliate plugs for the paid tools I have found useful to me. I have learned that I am not savvy enough to be a bleediing edge IM'er, and it doesn't bother me. I'll be able to do alright when all this comes together. None of this stuff (internet, web sites, etc.) comes naturally to me, and I'm trying to learn a lot of different stuff at once because it's all related. I am also trying to get it as close to right the first time (and of course I know that continuous tweaking is the only constant thing about it all).

4. Long term: Monetized enough to comfortably support me. As strange as it may sound to some, I'm not in this to become a millionnaire. If it happens that's OK, but there's much more to life than money, it's just easier to enjoy if you don't have to worry about paying the bills. I live a pretty simple, no-frills life and don't feel I'm missing out on the "trappings" that ensnare so many people today.

There are more reasons for the site, but I think the above is the gist. [/insomniacs take note]

Thank you very much! I will certainly inquire with you when I can afford to do so. The frayed shoestring budget referred to on my TWE site is even more so since yet another life-changing turn of events, but I do plan on buyng a good one along with a decent logo in the near future. You WILL hear from me!

Sorry for the long-winded post! After re-reading it, I guess I could have answered you with one word. . . PRACTICE!
