Hi All, Glad to make your aquaintance
I have recently strated reading Rosalinds book and was impressed by the clarity and NONE USE OF B.S :O
I am very new to online marketing (affiliates etc) but an old hand at IT. I have been in the business of IT Support for many years, and TBH, i am sick of it.
I dont like living in the City of London, too busy, too dog eatdog, too impersonal yada yada yada. I am looking to move to the country and have always wanted to work from home. I found my way to Affiliate selling through a friend who had done some research and advised me that this mihgt be what i am looking for, so i decided to give it a go.
I have my web hosting sorted and will soon have my own server too I have the web page template all ready to get online the only problem i have is my domain name, what to use?
I am currently looking at musicproductiontools dot com, what i need to know is, do you guys think this is too long?
Anyway hello and please dont get annoyed with me as i will be an avid question asker

Hi Mark,
Welcome to the community!
You seem to have a lot going for you,
I think you're in the right place
As for the domain name, I like it!
Not too long at all.
And if it fits your product line,
I say go for it!
Questions are always ok,
don't hesitate to ask, K?
Nice to meet you!
Brad. |

Welcome Mark,
Glad you could join us.
Re your proposed domain name, I think it is perhaps a little generic and therefore not overly memorable.
If I search for "Music Production tools" some interesting names like SynthZone and Newtronic come up. Wouldn't it be better to try and establish a brand that people will in time come to think of as a trusted name for music production equipment?
Just a thought.
Cheers,
Ros |

Hi Ros
I too done a search on "music production tools" to see what the competition was like, and yes you are correct the names are more "interesting" than the one which i have chosen but the crucial difference is in the products offered by these sites.
NEWTRONIC are selling sample libraries - midifile loop & tool disks, sampling collections, midi software & midi books.
SYNTHZONE has links to synthesizers, software, sample packs etc but doesnt seem to be an affiliate site as all links goto the manufacturers pages - ie if you click on Cubase VST it goes to steinbergs site, Ableton to Abletons site but not to a purchase section, more to an overview of the product.
I will be intending to have my Affiliate site sell everything from Music Production Systems (Cubase, Logic etc), Software Instruments (Vsts, Vsti ,Plugins), Hardware (synths, processors, effects), Studio Equipment (mixing desks, microphones, stands etc) and a selection of PC requirements like blank cd`s, Dvd`s, RAM etc.
I also aim to sell my own Video Tutorials which i have been making for a while and offer, for free, on my other web site (www.soundmagus.co.uk) but at a better, more professional quality. (please ignore that web site, its a test arena as you will probably notice haha)
All in all i plan to sell all the tools you would need to start, grow and maintain an as near to professional studio as you can afford.
I will also be offering forums for advice, support etc.
So as you can see the site i plan to have is different to the other ones mentioned but i completely understand what you mean, there is nothing like a catchy name (or tune !) to stick in your head.
I will re-think the name and see if i can come up with anything better and more memorable but i have to say i racked my brains for a few hours last night and everything i came up with was taken HOWEVER i didnt, i must confess, think about the personal branding side of things which opens up a whole host of new ideas and possibilities.
thanks for your feedback and assistance
kind regards
Mark |

Aghghghgh!!!
Ros the more i think about what you suggested the more cinvinced i am that you are correct - I already own the domain name www.soundmagus.co.uk, which could work, although the .com is gone already (car stereos).
And i have been using the name soundmagus all over the internet for 10 years now so its out there, and it means SoundWizard (or high priest in Persian tongue)so its all kind of linked in (its also my music production name).
I guess i could play on soundmagus with something else in the name like soundmagusaudio or something.
What you guys rekon?
totally confuddled Mark |
