Hi Avamarie, welcome to the forum!

While I don't use either, just a quick side-by-side comparison of features puts Hostgator at a clear advantage.

I'd forget about DataWebPro. Open three tabs in your browser, put one of these links in each one and compare:

http://www.hostgator.com
http://www.hostmonster.com
http://www.datawebpro.net/

Do a search and put others up side by side too.

You need to get the most bang for your buck, but you also want to get the package that will suit your needs now AND in the future without hassles.

Some things you will want from whatever host you choose:

cPanel, Fantastico, Large storage space, High bandwidth, 24/7/365 support, Live support, unlimited domains, unlimited email accounts

Another option is Google's Blogger, it's free and you don't need a web host (if budget is a factor).

Hope this helps! Smile

Hi Tiffani,

Good advice as usual Griff.
Comparing side by side is the way to go.

You can also check things out in the hosting forums
and see what people say about your specific needs.
But I'd say hostmonster is the best choice when starting out.
I have personal experience with them,
and they are great at support.

I'm not done with the site yet,
but you can see a few top hosts side by side here:
http://hosting.realproductreview.com

Hope it helps!
And welcome to the community!!
Brad.

Yeah, I use Hostmonster too, and have been VERY happy since I made the switch almost a year ago. Excellent support and (to MY knowledge) NO DOWNTIME!

Yeah, I host there as well.
WAY happy with them.

And as far as downtime, not even for a moment.
I've only been with them for a year(ish),
but I do monitor the downtime with a piece of software.
Hicups here and there at both of my other hosts,
and nothing at Hostmonster.

It's almost 'out of the ordinary' that way.
But, raising the bar for other hosts is a good thing.
... for us Laughing

Cheers!
Brad.

Shows ya what a full day does to me. Laughing
Time for a bit of shut eye.

G'night Guys! Cool

Funny, as we were just discussing hosts and Hostmonster, I received this email from their president Matt Heaton today and thought I'd share as the best (IMO) just keeps getting better:

Quote:
Dear Hostmonster.com Customer,

Its been a long time since I have written you! I apologize for that. We try and give
updates as often as necessary. I have so many new things to tell you about, but
some things aren't quite ready - Look for another announcement email next week!
Ok, now on to what I can talk about.

First, because we are growing so quickly we have contracted to add 300 additional
Mbit of bandwidth each month to our network starting on the first of each month. This
means faster downloads during peaks hours and less limits on burst usage for single
accounts. This is an ongoing upgrade that will benefit us through March of 2008!

Second, there have been concerns over what we will be doing regarding PHP4. For
those that don't know PHP4 is being phased out in the near future, and while third
party organizations have decided to maintain security updates for PHP4, it is clear that
PHP5 is the way to go and its only a matter of time before everyone needs to switch
their scripts to use PHP5. We have many servers with PHP4 running, and also many
with PHP5. To alleviate any issues in the future with certain scripts that only run on one
version of PHP we have developed the ability to run PHP4 and PHP5 on the same server
simultaneously. This will be rolled out to all users in the next couple of weeks. Some
servers already have this ability while most will see it in the next two weeks. You will
simply choose which version you would like to run in your Cpanel. This is a MUCH
needed feature for the future, and we don't know of any other Cpanel hosts that will
give you this ability (Another score for Hostmonstert!!).

Third, for those users that have yet to take advantage of the free marketing credits
available to our customers, now is the time. Google has increased their offering to an
amazing $50! Simply create a new adwords account with a minimum $5 initial deposit
and the $50 of marketing credits will be added to your account.

To try this out visit - http://www.hostmonster.com/googleoffer

Lastly, there have been many users that are looking for design services for their website
but haven't known where to go. In the past we haven't done a good job of letting our
users know that we have partnered with Edynamo to provide this service. If you need
an inexpensive way to get a custom website built look no further than Hostmonster Design
Services. Below is a link to visit if you are interested.

http://design.hostmonster.com

As always if you have questions about your Hostmonster account please visit and participate
in our user run forum located at -

http://www.hostmonsterforum.com

And for the personal side of Hostmonster (And for those that have nothing better to do with
your time) you can visit my blog at -

http://www.mattheaton.com

Thanks,
Matt Heaton / President Hostmonster.com

These guys are really on top of their game!

So put one in your sig file Cool

Or, you could recycle the comments you made above
into a short article for your site,
and give a link to it in your posts!
That's all there is to marketing! Wink

Brad.
ps.
You got my permission to use my words above too,
if you really want to go with the idea.

Thanks for the information here.

I've had a few sites on Godaddy for about five years or so, but they do not get a lot of traffic so I haven't cared too much about Godaddy's service. As I'm getting more serious about my business now I've been reading up on bad service by Godaddy and how easy it is for a competitor to call them up and label you as a spammer. I'll try hostmonster and see how it goes.

Just a note of clarification here: it doesn't matter who is hosting your site where traffic to it is concerned. You are only renting server space and functions from them. It is up to YOU to market your site(s) and drive traffic to them, your host has no part in driving visitors to your site (unless of course they can't keep their servers, and therefore your site, on line).

Hey Mike,

You won't be disappointed.
Hostmonster is really top notch as far as shared hosting.

And yeah, I've heard about sites having trouble with godaddy.
Top marketers all over warn about it.
But they recommend using them to register domains,
so people just buy into their promise and host there too.
Same as with Yahoo hosting, which has problems too.

I use namecheap.
Good prices, excellent service.

Let us know what you think of hostmonster, K?
Chat later!
Brad.

Oh yes, I just meant that I haven't been too busy with my own sites so I haven't been concerned with service. Reading back it does sound like I was blaming the host for poor traffic.
