As I looked through this page I noticed that no one else was visiting. So my guess is that this is not the social page I thought it might be. Laughing

But regardless, I want to introduce myself. I am a new member NPT, with limited to no experience in this business.

I have determined that this fact will not stop me. It might be a while before I get things rolling ... I have much to learn, but I will succeed, because it is my intention to do so.

I will leave my corporate life and run my own internet business or businesses that I can manage anywhere in the world that I like.

My intention is have true financial freedom so I can enjoy everything this great big world of ours has to offer. I look forward to making your acquaintance on this journey so feel free to contact me.

Sincerely Frank

Hi Frank,

Yeah, NPT isn't the most trafficed forum.
Mostly it's a quiet little community.

But it's a tight nit bunch of people
that truly like to help each other out.
That's it's power.

Not like other forums where bickering and such are the norm.
We like it that way Wink

Let us know what we do to help you in your journey, K?
And keep us posted.

Welcome to the community!
Chat later!
Brad.

Brad:

Thank you for your response. I never was one for bickering. Live and let live I always say. Smile

I really appreciate you offer of help, it appears that there are many things to consider in this business and none of them seem easy. But then again what business is easy... right?

For now I have decided to learn how to create a web site. I think just jumping right in and being web illiterate may put me at a disadvantage in the long the run.

You know now that I think about it I was reading that it is important to measure ones effort. For example it is important to know how many people are visiting your site and what pages they visited and how long they stayed there and whether or not they actually purchased anything. So maybe you can point me toward an excellent application that is designed for such things?

Thanks,

Frank

What you are looking for is commonly called site "statistics".

Any host that offers cPanel with their hosting package will have Awstats and / or Webalizer, both of which will provide that information. If your host does not, you can get Awstats f.ree here: awstats.sourceforge.net

and Webalizer (f.ree) here: mrunix.net/webalizer

Or, you can use Google Analytics (also f.ree) which is available here: google.com/analytics/home

I personally use all 3 for different aspects of each (just copy & paste the above references into your browser's url window and "go" to find out more about each).

There are many others, too. Everyone will have their favorite(s) for various reasons, but these 3 will easily show what you seek and, to an extent, can be customized to your needs.

Griff:
Thank you for that information I will definitely look into these items.

Now that you mention it, I may have noticed that my web Host had one or both the products that you mention.

At the moment I am not sure I will have to double check.

Learning how to use these items effectively will no doubt be a challenge too.

Oy! so much to know!

Oh well as it has been said before; "the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step".

Cheers

You're welcome Frank, glad it helps.

There really isn't much to learn. When you view them, the stats are pretty self-explanatory. With Awstats & Google Analytics you can adjust the level of detail. I'm not sure about doing that with Webalizer (I only use a couple of basic features of it).

Don't rush your thousand mile journey! Take your time and observe the scenery, taking detailed notes (so they'll make sense when you're paging through them 2 months and 20 miles from now), and plan each & every step of it. It's the difference between hiking boots and coraframs when you're coming up on mile #1000!

The real secret to IM is that it's NOT done overnight (until it is running right Wink)! Don't go any faster than you have to, there's a lot to learn and it will all fall into place if you ensure you fully understand the basics. These are the foundation upon which you build your empire!

Keep us posted on your progress!

p.s. Brad's right, it may not SEEM like an active forum, but since quality (not quantity) content is king, what members have posted is pure gold!

Hi Frank,

Just wanted to pop my head in and say HI! How's Tee-rana?

Ah yes, only non-Torontonians say that, eh?

Can't wait to get back there for Christmas and catch Dirty Dancing at the Royal Alexandra.

In the meantime, Brad and Griff gave you great advice... best of success on your journey!

Cheers,
Ros

Laughing Things in the big smoke are just hunky-dory.

I don't know when is the last time you were in Toronto... oops Tarana, but there have been some nice changes. In particular at Dundas and Yonge as well as Dundas and Bay. Maybe take in a small Downtown walking tour while you are here.

Thanks for saying Hello, there is much for me to do but I will keep this post informed of any mile stones

Frank
