I have one question about the rules of the forum, if I find a specific web site or information I believe may be interesting or helpful for the people on this forum, how would I get the word out with out breaking the rules of the forum?
Thanks

Is it your own site or somebody elses? If you just go putting links to your site in forums, you won't be popular for long. If someone is asking a question, and you think a link to your site might be beneficial to them, you can say so, but if it is your own site, don't try to hide that fact.
Do you have a link to your signature in your profile? If people are interested in what you have to say, they may click on that and visit your site. |

Hi Thomas,

This really is the point.
Like Catherine said, if your just trying to get links,
it will show in the form of a pattern to your posts.
(then you deal with me, or worse, Ros's fury )
But generally, a link here and there is ok.
NetProfitsToday was being over run with spam a bit ago.
And Ros took some needed action by upgrading the forum,
and including some anti spam plugins.
The minimum post requirement was an option in one of the plugins.
And though it helped with the spam, it can be an inconvenience.
Here's the thing:
(the rules are posted here)
Ros says in the ground rules she posted that
"The objective of the NPT Forums is to share helpful information"
But she also says about your signature to
"Please limit to one or two lines and only ONE URL."
This may seem to conflict a bit, but let me explain.
In your sig file, you are generally promoting your latest site.
Perhaps the site that you are trying to build credibility with.
BUT, a post, being a more specific conversation,
may have a link or two as well.
The need for a link may arise, to provide a resource,
or answer a question of another member.
And all these rules are not in place to stop contributions like that.
They are there to help prevent self serving spam.
If someone has a question, and you have a website,
or know of one that provides a solution, post the url!
If the site is YOURS, and it has affiliate links on it.
That's probably fine.
(unless you run through the forum trying to answer
question after question by providing your magic url
as the fix-all answer. LOL!)
If the site is NOT yours, but you are an affiliate,
sorry.
You can NOT post affiliate links, or redirects.
But you CAN post a link to the site directly.
Also, if you are under the 15 post limit for new members,
but you have a genuinely good url to share,
post it like this: www website com (or something like that)
I will show up and help you out.
The moderators won't let url's to junk sites hang around,
instead, we will take out the trash .
BUT, if you are really trying to be helpful,
we will usually edit the post and fix the link for you.
Hope this helps everyone!
And remember, the point is this:
As Ros says in her intro, "Play Nice"!
If you are here for help, or to be helpful,
you will be welcomed by all, and share a great community.
But, if you are here to cause trouble,
well... you get the point
Hope this helps everyone!!

I think the essence of all good forums is that they become a community and like all good communities
it's good to help out those that are a little less able than yourself.
Think, "What goes around, comes around". i.e. the more you help other people to move forward, the more that will be reciprocated and you'll become more successful yourself.
Regards
Roy |
