These are, apparently, the top 5 most expensive domain name sales...

(add a dotcom to the end of the links domain names below)

1. Sex - $12 million

2. Porn - $9.5 million

3. Business - $7.5 million

4. Diamond - $7.5 million

5. Beer - $7 million


A couple of observations..

Do you think there is a healthy porn market online??

Are men more active online than women? Sex and beer are primarily male dominated markets ... business is actually also male dominated.

Of course the above are stats regarding domain name sales. If you look at overall web properties and which of them sold for the most, you'd have to toss in MySpace, Skype, Hotmail, PayPal, etc.

I love those Forbes slideshows. Don't know if your findings indicate that the internet is male dominated though - I'm a woman and I like sex, business, diamonds and beer. Ok, maybe I like beer less than the rest.

It was probably men that bought those domains tho as most middle aged business men who drink too much beer can't manage to have sex afterwards, and buy diamonds for their younger mistresses to compensate. Also, usually they don't have the imagination to think of an original domain name for themselves.

You should check out the forbes billionaire slideshow. They nearly all have really healthy breakfasts and exercise at least five times a week.
