The only thing dumb is not asking
Webhosting is when a company provides a server and net connection for you to operate a web site from. Domain name registration is the process by which you register a domain name only. The "names" are different because the services are different. Domain registration is the act of renting a world wide web "address" for a period of time. Domain hosting is the act of putting a domain address into operation. Many people prefer to use seperate companies for each service so that they can control their domain name space via a company that is seperate from the one hosting their web pages. This seperation provides enhanced controls that help should you ever encounter a company that doesn't like ever loosing a customer. Hope this helps.

I need to understand something. It might sound a bit dumb but I have to learn it anyways.
Is webhosting and domain registration the same thing? If I got a domain name but no webhosting, my site won't be online right? Then why offer domain name seperate from webhosting? Why not offer them in one package under one name?
Thanks
Kind Regards
