Hello,
I have several sites that are linking to my site and I do not want them.
How do I stop them from linking?
Thanks,
Jim |

Hi Jim,
I think a first step would be to e-mail the owners of the site(s) that are linking your your site, and ask them to remove their links.
My guess is that you've tried that - it's a pretty obvious first step. Thing is, maybe the site(s) linking to yours have no contact information or they have simply ignored your request.
The next step is going to really test how much you want these undesirable inbound links to go away.
Are you ready?
Okay... you have to hire an attorney and have the attorney file the necessary legal paperwork so that you can discover the individual(s) or companies who are behind the website(s) linking to your website.
This could take time.
But once you have that information, the attorney can send a threatening letter to the webmaster(s) demanding that they remove the links to your site.
If there is no response, your attorney has to follow through with a lawsuit.
Now, keep in mind, this is all costing you money unless you find an attorney to take the case for free, or have a lawyer in the family, -OR- you want to play an attorney and do this pro se (representing
yourself).
Jim, are you a businessman?
If you are, think about the return on investment that will result from having the "unwanted" inbound links removed. What will it be? Is it worth the time, money, and aggravation of pursuing this?
Maybe the sites linking to yours are accusing you of stuff that's not true? Maybe unhappy customers are claiming you're a fraud? In those instances, I could see the return on investment being worth it, especially if you're innocent of the charges, etc.
Well, that about wraps it up.
I hope this has helped a little bit - but you know, I think anyone reading this has got to wonder if you're really serious, or just talking hot air.
I'm not sure!

Jen,
Exactly what the Bleep does this mean?
I really need an explanation. What is it that you're not sure of???

Jen,
Innocent of what charges?
Look at my site in Alexa and tell me what I'm guilty of. Half the links are foreign.
What's your problem?

Oh man...
Hey Jim, I see your point.
But I don't think she meant it that way.
When I first read her reply,
I thought it might be taken bad.
I was just hoping it wouldn't.
I think she was just throwing "if's" at you.
I don't think she was really assuming.
I have had people slam a site of mine,
effectively giving me "bad links".
It doesn't have to be for a genuine reason,
but people can and do say things like that.

The points to consider are in bold above.
It's all said as a "maybe",
and "stuff that's not true" is assumed by Jen.
Please Jim, let this go.
K?
And by the way.
I just ignored the pokes at my site.
They got buried deep in the
forum they got posted in.
And are long forgotten.
Further, they are out numbered by GOOD links.
THAT'S the key.
Something you could try if it's
a bad neighborhood link thing,
is block the ip at your host.
I don't know how that affects the se's,
but I think it's the only posibility.
I've never really looked into it.
(maybe I should. LOL )
Hope it helps, my friend!!
Let me know if I can help any more.
Brad.
p.s.
You said look at your site in alexa,
but you don't have a url in your profile.
Care to share it? |

Hi Brad,
I would like to hear her explanation. However, my cooler side has prevailed and I have put it to rest.
I tried to put my url in the post but it said I needed 15 posts before I could.
Thanks for your calming voice...

My explanation, and summary of events:
Jim, the gemologist (nice rhyme to that), does not want certain other websites linking to his website.
Even though I suspect (and by his replies confirm) that Jim is talking a bunch of hot air (venting frustration with inbound links as opposed to being serious about getting those sites to remove the links through legal action), I provide a detailed step-by-step approach to dealing with the unwanted inbound links.
I even caution Jim to consider the return on investment (ROI) of going through the aggravation and costs of attempting to have the unwanted inbound links removed. I also provide a hypothetical scenario in which I think the hassle might be worth it.
Jim does not reply by thanking me for my having given him a step-by-step approach, but instead gruffly appears to shout at me and asks what my problem is.
It appears Jim is an angry, bitter individual who wants to pick fights; first with the websites who are linking to his website, and now with me for giving him an answer that he apparently did not like.
I've said my part, and will not participate in this time wasting thread anymore.
Good luck getting those inbound links removed, Jim.
