The autoresponder built into cPanel is not a true autoresponder... it is an auto-reply. It sends an automated reply when someone sends an email to the address you have attached to the auto-reply.
Let's say for example that you set up the auto-reply with an email address info@yoursite.com. If I was to send you an email using that address, the letter you typed in for that account would come back to me. That will only happen once and it sometimes referred to as a vacation message.
To get a true autoresponder that sends followup messages, you should look into services like aweber.com, getresponse.com and a few others. Or visit the Autoresponder section on my site for a list.
Hope that helps.

Small note:
Host gator has super strict rules about mailing.
In their t.o.s. it even mentions "double opt-ins" aren't allowed.
Now, I think someone needs to explain that to them,
because I'm sure they are confusing it with "co-reg" lists.
But the point is, I got the impression they weren't the type
to stand behind you, their customer, on this issue.
I think it would be really easy to get them upset on a "mailing" issue.
So when hosting at host gator,
I would definately use an off site service like adweber or getresponse.
Besides, adweber's price has come down.
It works out to about $120.ish USD per year.
NOT bad at all for the reliability they offer.
I'm thinking of migrating over myself!
I LOVE Autoresponse Plus, (my current mailer),
and my mailings are preapproved with my host.
However, there are some real benefits to adweber.
ie: deliverability!
( for me however, one thing at a time, LOL )
Hope it helps!

I haven't got one though. But I think I will get aweber very soon. If you noticed, most internet marketers use aweber. At least Rosalind is using and has been serving her well I guess. |

Hey guys,
That's a good indicator,
but not always the best reason.
If I'm looking for a script or something,
I DO get my ideas from what is being used.
I will search at the bottom of pages or the source code
for an indicator as to what script is running.
Then I google it
However, I DON'T stop there,
Next, I compare!
I have nothing bad to say about aweber.
That's not the reason I'm posting this.
I think going with their service would be a good choice.
Looking around is the point.
The next thing, after you have a couple of possibilities,
is to test out the support, and clear up ANY questions you have.
Personally, I love the new "live chat" some services have.
I will run a company through the ringer on a chat.
Or email them 3, 4, or 5 times if it takes it.
The BIGGEST feature of a product or service that I compare them by,
is the support.
Period.
Learning how so use the search engines,
and how to compare products or services,
will save you BIG in the end, I promise.
Hope it helps!
Brad.
PS_
I was talking about moving my own lists earlier, remember?
Well, I made my choice.
Features, cost, and support were my points.
And I got to tell you, "getresponse" has my vote.
I was a day or so from signing up with aweber,
and I had posed the same question to both services.
I got a response from get response
They are willing to go the extra mile guys!
And aweber was not.
Plus, they have a VERY stable system,
with a couple of benefits aweber doesn't have.
They are even a bit cheaper.
I have used AutoResponse Plus for years.
But I'm done, I can't deal with my host anymore.
So, a stable service that I don't have to worry about was the goal.
Get "GetResponse".
...That's my 2 cents |

Why GetResponse, Brad?
I was a little put off by their lead-buying offer, personally. |

Hey Dan,
Like I said above,
they were willing to go the extra mile for me.
Specifics don't matter, it was an individual case.
Also, Getresponse has a team that works with the big players,
and keeps a vigilant eye out for spam.
Making mail from their domain get through more often.
Aweber has this too, but it's an extra service.
A whole separate business, with a whole separate fee.
As for the leads, it's done in a way I like.
Instead of buying a list of leads,
you get to put up an ad on a high traffic site they own,
and generate a list of leads from your own ad!
Your ad stays there until you have received the amount you purchased!
And the prices are great too.
I say, that's a unique and powerful way to do it,
don't you think?
Anyway, it's just a personal preference thing in the end.
We all have to evaluate things ourselves, ya know?
But I did end up with getresponse, and
I have been happy with my choice.
Aweber is just a bit more "known".
I think that's their biggest attribute over others.
Again, just my 2 pennies
Brad. |
