Affiliate Handbook updates?

I have been kicking the tires for a while now and have decided to give the Affiliate Marketing racket (just kidding) a shot. I bought Ros's Affiliate Handbook a couple of years ago and read a good deal of it but it made very little sense to me. I've been reading a lot of other, more general Internet Marketing information in the past few months, and apparently my general knowledge has increased, because when I went back to give Ros's book another shot, it all seemed so simple and made a lot more sense once I had developed a good frame of reference.

My question is this: Has the handbook been updated in the past couple of years and is my copy out of date? Can I fill in any gaps from the website or do you recommend I buy another copy? I trust you'll be honest and not try to soak me for another $47.

Also, I expect to work hard and stick with it, but is there any way you can give me a ballpark estimate on how long the learning curve is before the "big bucks" start rolling in? I know this varies person to person, but you guys must have some feel for how long the learning curve is. I appreciate your help.

I'm not looking for any guarantees, just a benchmark so I'll know if I'm headed in the right direction.
