Hi all,
I am just about as new as you can get (I just started building my site today ) and I'm a little confused . I have Ros's Handbook (thank you Ros !! ) I bought software to develop my site and I am building now. I am wondering how do I actually get a blog on the site ? Is that something I have to program in or does my host provide it ?
If anyone can help clarify this I greatly appreciate it.
Thanks everyone

I'm not sure of any hosts that have this.
I "think" fantastico included a push button install if you have that.
But a blog is SO simple, it's not even necissary.
Google "installing wordpress" and you get instructions all over.
Wordpress is famous for their 5 minute install.
And that's a great way to experience your first script install
Here are some url's from Google:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress
http://www.cre8d-design.com/blog/wordpress.html
If you need help with the database, let us know.
And DO put it in "www.your-url.com/blog/
unless you are just going to use it as your index.
It's just easier than changing it later
Hope that helps!

Piece of cake, IF it's wordpress.
Although I don't know if you can backup the database
if it's a wordpress blog hosted at wordpress. hmm..
BUT, wordpress can even import from other blogs like blogger!

You know Bradley,
As I think about this , do I even need a full blown web site to do affilliate marketing ? I think I know the answer so I should tell you a little about the concept for my site. I am building a site based on a destination. I will comment on the sites to see but also focus on accomodations, in the area. I am not only going to do affilliate marketing but once I can quantify my traffic I will be selling hard advertising on the site as a secondary income stream. So with that in mind could this be a blog only site ?
Thanks . BTW thanks for the speedy reply to my question. I am stoked about this , it may take me a little time to get the site right but I am making progress !

Hi David, Hi All,
Absolutely, you can start your site out as a blog-only venture and it can remain so for quite some time.
But my guess is that at some point you may decide that you want to do things that Wordpress simply isn't made for - building out large datafeeds, etc. - and at that point you can incorporate and add pages onto another section of your site (outside the blog).
Happy blogging!
Cheers,
Ros |

The advantage to blogger is you don't need hosting.
If that is something you want to wait on,
blogger is a good choice.
However,
blogger is not as popular as when they first started out.
It's a bit harder to work with, (not much)
and is controlled by someone else
as far as functionality, upgrades, plug ins, etc.
BUT, it's database is also easily imported in to a wordpress blog.
(A new feature in late releases)
It's aces at this point I think.
I think the experience will do you good!
I started out with a blogger account as my first blog.
Hosted my next blog ON wordpress's servers,
and finally installed my own wordpress blog.
Now, I have many, ALL wordpress on my domains.
( I have no real experience with any other cms's though )
I dropped the others and moved on,
but I value the experience.
Many do this "experimenting" thing I'm sure.
It's a step forward, that's what counts
Just pick an action, and...
"Go for it!"
Hope it helps!

Brad,
as always, thank you. Just want to make sure I am not wasting time and you are exactly right on the learning aspect. I am learning so much. I have learned to post scripts and pics and how to modify them, so I am coming along. I have 2 affiliate links working on the site now ! I have also been passing the link on to freinds and associates and the feedback is good, but I'll get better as the site and business develops. Can I pass the site on to you ? Not sure its appropriate to put here.
Thanks again

Absolutely!
Pass it on!
The curiosity is killing me!
Sharing your work is the best way to
get multiple reviews and advice.
And people are afraid of the response
when they're just starting out.
You have to be able to accept criticizm...
But nobody in this crowd is cruel about it
This crowd IS the place to make that stretch.
Your among friends! |
