I have been reading Ros's book and am trying to understand what's going on here.

I was searching for a part for my car (a shifter) and just for the heck of it, typed in Shifters.com

I am taken to a site which has a link to several stores where you can buy a shifter and it seems like there are also links to everything else under the sun. There is no type of content whatsoever. I am as_uming these are all affilliate links (are they cloaked?)

Did someone just create a site full of affilliate links and are driving traffic to it?

If so, are they making any $$?

Hi RZ,

No, even though this site is put together fairly well,
it's still the google adsense junk sites you hear about.

Maybe it's owner is a really focused marketer,
and maybe he does make some money.
But what are the chances?
Who would link to this site?
Nope, if he IS an active marketer,
he either has thousands of these sites,
or spends a lot of time spamming forums.
( "Oiey" Rolling Eyes )

This kind of site isn't full of affiliate links.
If you look closer, it's Adsense ads with every click.
No content. No visitor experience.

NOT a good example of what your trying to accomplish.

GOOD example for the forum though, Wink
Thanks!

Chat Later.
Brad.

Thanks for replying. Seems kindof pointless to go through the trouble of creating a site like this.

Yea, it is.
The profit isn't worth it per page.
But this is why you see SO many of these junk sites.
Because it's all automated.

Anyone that actually uses this as a business model
is creating thousands of these sites with a tool.
Then they put them up, and get pennies from each site.
Figuring that "if you throw enough 'stuff' on the wall...
some will stick".

In the end, they just get de-listed by the big boy se's,
and make it harder for the real contributers to
filter through all the junk to a good spot in the results.

Not worth it is right.
Plan for long term,
and the google fairy will smile on you Wink

Brad.

Hi all,

I took a look, and yes, it's that kind of sad, crappy site that gives affiliate marketers a bad name.

The links are all from Yahoo! Search Marketing though... "overture.com", so advertisers are paying everytime someone clicks on one of those ads from a wasteful site.

Wasteful for visitors, wasteful for advertisers... the only person making any money there is the scammy affiliate.

Blech.

It's a doozy, alright!

You can count on Ros to give it to you straight, whether it gives you warm fuzzies or not. Believe me, I know!
