This is a rant but also help is needed Very Happy

When we started our shopping site we had hosting with yahoo. I cut my teeth using their templates and had the more awful site. I did everything wrong and Ros and others were very helpful with their comment. We then bought xsitepro and haven't looked back.

For the past months we have had a commission payment for CJ.

Roll forward and we wanted to build a niche site or two or maybe six. We decided that yahoo wasn't the best for hosting as we would have to pay for each domain name. We moved hosting to a resellers account.

I contacted yahoo who informed me that the domain name www.robbev.com (don't bother clicking it) was ours until Feb 2008. I changed nameservers and no problems.

Roll forward to a week ago and we had an issue with our hosting so we changed the plan. Now it was simple to change the nameservers on our domain. I go to yahoo and no domain control panel.

I contact yahoo and I get wonderful customer service which tells me how to log into the services area. 10 emails later they finally work out I am talking about not being able to find the domain control panel. They inform me I can't have one because I had missed a payment on my service and the account was closed on 3 July. Remember that our shopping site was working until a week ago.

How can I have missed a payment on the service when the only service I have is the domain name and that is paid for until Feb 2008. I might be dumb but I thought it was still 2006 Razz

They said to reactivate the account I would need to apply for a new service. I don't want a new service, I don't want email, I don't want hosting, I don't want a merchant account I just want to access my domain control panel and get the nameservers changed.

In the meantime our shopping site where people were visiting regularly is dead, we have a new domain name for it but now people need to come there.

Rant over but any advice?

perhaps when they canceled your hosting account they zapped your domain account in error.

The domain is active like you said until 2008-02-09 and registred to Beverley J Clement if that is you then I would obtain proof that you paid for the domain until 2008. I would do this by checking your credit card statement where you will see the charge from Yahoo for that domain. Once you have that you can go back to yahoo and tell them you can prove the domain has been paid and demand they restore it.

Once it's back I suggest you go to Go Daddy and initiate a domain transfer! For $6.95 you can move your domain over once the domain has been transfered then cancel your account with Yahoo for good.

I registred several domains with yahoo when they had the $1.99 special but as they come for renewal I have been transfering them to Go Daddy.

I see that your domain is back up and running and trust that you got it switched over OK?

Cheers,

I just use GoDaddy for hosting and domain registration. I usually opt for the extra cost of making the domain private. Not sure if this is a waste of extra money or not but I'm assuming it cuts down the amount of spam.

I'm impressed with their technical support. Although I usually just contact them via email I've always received detailed and accurate information no matter the number of questions. However, I do find the GoDaddy site somwhat to convulated.

I've heard hostgator is very good. I looked them over but haven't tried any of their hosting packages yet.
