Hey all,

Anyone know how to fix the way a phpbb Bulletin Board displays in a feed?

The NPT Forum feed does 2 things I absolutely can't stand.

1. Every time a new post is made to a topic, every previous post is repeated in the feed. So it looks like I haven't read 100 additional posts every time I check the FeedReader. Aargh.

2. The Forum name is always posted in addition to the Topic name of the post. How do I get rid of that?

Anyone know?

THANKS!!!! Smile

There's always 'one more thing' isn't there? Smile

Does anyone know whether HTML can be eliminated from showing up in a FeedReader?

I'd like to have folks click the title to get more information from the site, which should then help increase SE popularity. Laughing

Cheers again,

Ros

Hi Ros,

I'm not sure anyone could answer that,
because it depends on the client you use to parse the feed.
I don't think it's the forum it's self.

I use 'feedreader', recommended by one of your boys, Jim Edwards.
And I love it!
Really light weight application, very small learning curve.

Anyway, let us know what you use.
I have used other readers,
someone has some experience that will help I'm sure.

K? Very Happy

Cheers!
Brad.

Hi Brad,

I too am using Feedreader, version 3.05.

Do believe it's the way the forum script is set up though... I don't see others displaying the forum name over and over and over again. Smile

Chers,

Ros

Hi Ros,

You may be right,
I'm not exactly sure.
Sorry Confused .

You asked "whether HTML can be eliminated from showing up",
and that really confused me.

In my feedreader, up on the top, in the blue bar.
It lists "NetProfitsTodayForum".
Or it would list whatever you name the feed of course.
BUT, that's the only place it does.
Then, in the actual "title" preview area, it lists the title of the post.
Sorted by 'today', 'yesterday', etc.
If there are multiple posts, the title appears more than once.
If I click on the title, it opens my browser and takes me to that post.
And it shows that post, not the top of the thread.

This is the same as all of the feeds I view.
Your forum doesn't do anything differently.
And this is exactly what you want, right?

Maybe I just have the options set up differently, hmm...
Not sure.
I haven't updated feedreader from v3.0,
so maybe that's the difference, and why I'm confused.
(question: did they fix the database problem in v3.05?)

Anyway, though I have set up a phpbb forum,
I don't administrate one right now.
And I can't remember all the settings and such.
So if it is the forum,
maybe I should have let someone else try to help.

Sorry I couldn't help out.
I'll bug a friend of mine and see if he will take a peek at this thread Wink

Talk Later.
Brad.

You started the "one more thing" thing,
so it's not my fault Wink

I was looking over the feeds in feedreader after my post a moment ago.
Something isn't right...

It seems that something changed on the 3rd of this month.
On the 3rd, I can see a few posts where it lists the title,
and then it lists an "RE:*title*" later in the day.
BUT, that has changed!

Example, on 8-3-06:
Newbie's Corner :: What about search engines?
AT:2:58 p.m.
Newbie's Corner :: RE: What about search engines?
AT:7:13 p.m.

When I click them, it takes me to that post like I described in the last post.

However, on the 4th and today, I don't see any "RE:" posts.
As an example, this thread is listed once yesterday, and twice today.
NONE of them show the post as a reply.
Instead, they all show your original post.
And when clicked, they take you to the top of the thread.

I don't know what's goin' on up there,
but when you get it figured out,
let us know how you did it!
K?

Hope it helps out a bit at least.
Talk later.
Brad.

I know.. it's totally weird now. I should stick to writing... and NEVER play with scripts. Sad

But it's that repeating of Newbie's Corner, and the other forum names in the FeedReader that was originally bugging me and I STILL haven't been able to figure that one out!

Aargh.

Cheers,
Ros

Tried to send you a pm Ros,
but it's disabled in your forum.
So, when you get to it, I sent an email.
( I understand. One less thing, hu Mr. Green )

If anyone else is wanting to change the feed display,
I figured this out.

Actually, it's really simple.

Send me an emial, and I will send you the fix.

Cheers!
Brad.
