I've got several ideas for blogs I want to set up in the next month, but I've been debating about where to host them. As I see it, I have three good options right now:
-Blogger (free)
-TypePad ($9/month for up to 3 blogs)
-Wordspress on my own domain and hosting (about $8-9/month)
Here's what I'm thinking... I like the fact that Blogger is free, but I sort of want to build a brand. TypePad will let you use your own domain name, it just takes some minor finagling. I know Wordpress is good, but I'm not so clear on all the blog & ping stuff to make sure it gets listed in the appropriate search engines.
Do any of you have any experience with any of these? I'm going to want to monetize these blogs with AdSense and affiliate links. Will that adversely affect any of my choices?
Thanks.

I think the choice is Wordpress or Moveable type.
Blogger keep deleting blogs for no reason from what I see and if you want a brand then get your own domain.
I use Wordpress with Rapid Niche Websites which enables you to turn a blog into a website while still having all the benefits of blogging. It does the ping automatically when I post something.
I f you buy a domain and get hosting with cpanel Wordpress is a one click install which was a big bonus to me! I have found the plug ins I wanted were also dead simple. I am now a wordpress fan.

For less than $9/month you can get one hosting with the possibility to make a tens or maybe hundreds of blogs. Godaddy.com offers $1.99 domain name registration for any purchase of hosting or other products except domain name.
I suggest you to search for hosting company who offers fantastico and cpanel as with it you can install so many applications (including blogging software) with just a click of a button.

Indra

Hi,
Good that you mentioned Rapid Niche Websites.. I was just looking at it today and planned to do a review. VERY well worthwhile!
HostGator would be the best choice for Cpanel with Fantastico.
Cheers,

Hi all,
Thanks to those who have responded to my query. I'm going to go with Wordpress because it seems the most logical and safe choice.
Thanks to Ros as well for the HostGator recommendation. Does anyone know how it compares to LunarPages? They both have cPanel and Fantastico, but LP offers 400GB of transfer/month to HG's 75GB for the Baby Plan I was thinking about signing up for. I don't think I'll ever use up that much bandwidth unless I start to offer video blogging or podcasting, which aren't currently part of my plans. They both also offer 24/7 support, but LP also has a very active user forum for help.
Just curious if anyone knows why I should choose one over the other.
Thanks again,
Ed |

I know nothing about LP but I have the resellers plan with hostgator (the first level) and I have 8 websites hosted there and using on one site 3% of bandwidth and the others only 1% of bandwidth.
Our main site is hosted elsewhere and again I am only using anything between 2 and 3% of bandwidth. |

Hello-
Since it was mentioned, I was wondering if anyone would care to comment on their experience with Rapid Niche Websites. This is very appealing to me and I just wondered if people were having success with affiliate marketing this way.
Thanks for your time.

PS. Also if you know of any potential setbacks
I would like to hear those as well. Thanks. |
