Has anyone actually made any money using free advertising?

Greetings Jen,
If you consider organic search engine positioning and free directory listings free advertising, then yes. My Insurance Information Centers are currently making money with these aspects of free advertising.
Just make sure that any free advertising that you choose to engage in is as well targeted as possible regarding the theme of your website.
Warmest Regards,
FJT

haha...
it means gaining a good position in search engines naturally, i.e. without any "black hat" techniques. |

Howdy TC,
Thanks! Yep, as "black hat" techniques always result in the website(s) in question getting the size 13.
That being the case, why build an online business on quick fixes? Sure, BH may result in top rankings for awhile. However, sooner or later it collapses like a house of cards; and a website that would still be on top had it done it right to begin with is suddenly gone from the search engine listings, with the owner(s) almost always having to start over again with a new domain name. Personally, I think that sucks major <censored>.
Nope, I'd rather do it right the first time around so that I can stick around! LOL
Seriously. I just focus on the appropriate on-page and off-page optimization factors. It's a pain in the <censored> at times, but well worth your efforts by doing it by the book in the long run.
Warmest Regards,
FJT

Oh yes, indeed, Larissa! Guess we're all still pondering the mysteries of the searchaverse, even those of us who have begun to somewhat understand the physical laws of that alien quantum reality ...
Warmest Regards,
FJT
