Oh, you guys, you're making me weep.
Talking about Hong Kong and visiting McD's in the same breath!
I was in Hong Kong back in November and I would love to go back soon mainly for the food! |

Will you are so right about the food but it is even better on the Mainland. McD's was only for research purposes and on the Mainland a good place for toilets.
For those who are British I couldn't believe it but we have a Harry Ramsden in HK |

Bev,
Thanks for the great info. The link you gave me is a great help too!!!
You have a good point about McD's being a good source for toilets, hehe.
I also noticed that there were quite a few KFCs in Beijing compared to the number of McDonalds.. Now I know why. What a huge difference in price!
I've never been to Hong Kong, sounds like a place to go see someday. As for the food on the Mainland, I felt that Beijing had some of the best I've ever had. I really enjoyed the "hot pot" restaurant too.
Sounds like Will has the same critique for HK.
I'll definately have to stop at Tienmen and check out the Olympic count down clock. Last year I only drove around the square (the Tienmen side), but never really got a real good look at it. I remember seeing a tourist there with a "Beijing Olympics 2008" T-Shirt and I never figured out where he got that. I'm going to have to look again this year.
Anyway, here I go rambling on!
Thanks again!

Okay, maybe McD's is okay for toilet stops and cups of (milk) tea. |

Mc.D's is also great if your dog has Arthritis and you can't get it to swallow its medication. You can buy the cheeseburgers pretty cheaply and then freeze them. When you have to give the dog a pill just stick it one of the burgers and you are good to go. |

| But then your arthritic dog would also have to live with obesity! |

Obesity? He topped out around 180 lbs(rottweiler). He'd only get 1 cheeseburger a day with his pill and a half bowl of special diet kibble...and the cheeseburgers look so small. |

Jack they have been selling Olympic stuff since before it was confirmed that the Olympics would be in Beijing. Now they have a massive building programme for hotels and the like.
You must walk around Tiananmen it is a great walk and we always take friends (some of our friends in Beijing think we are totally mad) around Tiananmen and then we go out of the square on the left and walk. It is a straight road and leads into Downtown Beijing. It is about 1 hour walk at a reasonable pace and we reward them with Starbucks. We don't have Starbuck or decent coffee for my husband in Xi'an.
Will the milk tea is rubbish even in McD's or KFC in China. The tea bag is OK but the milk is sweet UHT rubbish very creamy. For the past two years I have been drinking my tea black. We brought in boxes of tea from the UK I mean have you tried that Lipton yellow label rubbish which is sold as tea (oops that what the Yanks drink) but in HK we have M&S and our local supermarket own label is Waitrose, how strange is that and the other supermarket own label is Tesco.
We head back to Blighty in Sept a decent cup of tea. |
