Hello - I need to know if I am creating my tiny url destination link correctly. I want to join my ClickBank affiliate link with the merchant’s webpage so ClickBank can track my sales and I get my commissions.
Here’s what I am doing with ClickBank....
1. I login in with my username at ClickBank (let’s just say its Tody2146 for example) and then I locate a product to sell on ClickBank and copy its link e.g., http://toby2146.dataproz.hop.clickbank.net
2. Then I paste this into Tiny Url. Then I go directly to the merchant’s home page or the landing page that has the relevant info and copy the web address in the tool bar e.g., http://www.dataproentry.com/?hop=0 - I then join the two together with ?url= as
follows:
http://toby2146.dataproz.hop.clickbank.net?url=http://www.dataproentry.com/?hop=0
3. I enter the above into TinyUrl and then Tiny Url comes back with something like http://tinyurl.com/05k54 which, when tested, does take me to the correct DataPro Entry web page - and I should be able to use this tiny url address in Google Adwords as my destination Url, and be sure that ClickBank is tracking my commissions correctly. Am I doing this right?
Thanks for your feedback and any other advice is always appreciated.

Step 2 isn't necessary. Take the URL from step 1 and feed that into Tiny URL.
If you want to check whether or not it's worked, simply use the link and then click through to the ClickBank purchase page (the page where you enter your payment details). Any affiliate referral detected by ClickBank will be shown at the bottom of the page.
The next step is to consider what would happen if you distribute your Tiny URL link all over the web and then the Tiny URL service disappears or they start charging.
Also, everytime you use a Tiny URL link, you're promoting their website. Why not promote your own instead?
See the link in my signature if you want to secure and future-proof your affiliates links. |

Tyhanks for the advice and I will check out the resources you mentioned -
I don't know alot about html and web addresses (but am learning fast). I've been pursuing this because every Affiliate Program has a slightly different linking code and I'd like to know universally how to snip out the part of the code that's relevant and then additionally send shoppers to a targeted web page within the merchant's site. I think it would increase the likelihood of a sale - for example, ebay offers this option with a "flexible destination tool" (google it) so affiliates can send a shopper directly to the item listing on ebay.
Also, I have a Clickbank hop link and realize it's two easy steps to use Tiny Url. Trust me - I am very new at all of this so be patient with me. What you suggest is fine and will obviously hide my aff. link (which is good) -
Now - let's take this to the next step - if I use ClickBank's hop link, then I have to send folks to Clickbank's designated merchant landing page (usually a home page) - so - what if I want to send someone to a different page in the website (for example, the ordering page?) - how do I (or do I even need to) combine the Clickbank hop link with a relevant landing page of my choice within either tiny url or some other cloaking program?
Thanks again |
