Hey all,
Quick question about keyword list size. I'm a bit unclear as to the focus on sheer size?
I'm just starting out with PPC and am going into Google with a £20 pre-pay balance and list of around ten initial keywords (targeted). This is just to gauge conversion rates and optimal bid level.
I can't help but think that ten isn't enough. Everywhere I read, it recommends lists of 2 or 3 hundred at least.
But the way I figure it, if you're spending money on related keywords, rather than just highly focused keywords, you're taking money away from your budget that could be put to better use?
I did have a list of around 200 keywords initially but, when put through the Google traffic estimator, the results are FAR more favourable when I narrow down the list and focus on these ten or so.
Any advice would be appreciated
Cheers,
-Mark |

Hi there - it really depends how small your niche is. I am finding that 500 plus keyphrases are needed for most of my sites. What are you using to find your keyphrases? I highly recommend wordtracker.
You could start out with fewer keywords and add more as you build more content pages. With adsense, you can direct traffic for different keywords to different pages of your site. |

Hey,
I'm working on a site that isn't primarily an affiliate site, I'm selling an digital product on a sales letter page so I'm focusing on AdWords rather than content for my main source of traffic.
I use a combination of Wordtracker's free tool, Overture and Google's keyword tool.
I understand the need for a large list of keywords for a content site, basing each section/page around a different keyword group. But is it really helpful for an AdWords campaign intended to get people to one page with one topic? |
