Hi all,
My first site is finally up!
Any comments/suggestions greatly appreciated. Going to be adding content gradually.
Bearing in mind I'm 21 and not a parent, has anyone got any ideas for content to attract relevant traffic?
I'm thinking toy reviews, dvd reviews etc. Maybe during the summer, family holiday destinations.

Oh Ros, hope you don't mind but I kinda borrowed the style of the intro to your 'about us' page on sage hearts, it appealed to me lol. Will change it if you want.
Many thanks,

I've done a quick review of your site. I looked at your style sheet as well as the source for a few pages. I must admit I like to see sites that conform to strict document type standards, instead of transitional sites. I think you have undue maintenance ahead of you. Also, the rounded-corner nav bars could have been built to be more fluid. They appear to be fixed width at this point, and there is actually a visual flaw where the rounded corner graphic meets the body of the nav bar. It looks like an anti-aliasing issue. I do appreciate that your entire layout was accomplished without the use of tables though.
On your landing page there is a typo in the first paragraph. You have "present opportunities" instead of "presents opportunities". There is also a typo on the About Us page. Review carefully.
I say good job, though, especially for a first site. It looks like you've worked hard and learned a lot in the process. I'm curious to know how you're faring. Are you generating any revenue or retaining subscribers?
Good work... keep it up! |

Thanks for the review : )
I've fixed the opportunities typo and think I've spotted the one on the about us page, varieties? If not, could you give me a hint lol
Being English it kinda goes against the grain spelling colouring without the u, but the contrast in demand is so high it'd be stupid to ignore.
I know the language probably isn't as tidy as it could be but I've already spent longer than I should tweaking, I just wanted to get something up.
I'll take a look at that graphic thing, thanks for pointing it out. Also, not sure what you're referring to with the rounded corner nav bars being more fluid?
Thanks again,
-Mark |

Well I can't find a typo now. I did notice you used "and" where you should have used "or" in the section where you talk about RSS on the About Us page.
As far as fluid nav bars, I just mean that yours don't appear to be built so that they can expand their width to fit various screen or browser or font sizes. It really isn't much work to make them so, and cuts down on future maintanence if you intend the site to be an ongoing project. Its just a stunt involving an arrangement of background images in your style sheet and you only have to do it once...
I agree that getting a site into production is more important than working out every single little bug first. Good work... |

Hi Mark well done on getting it live. A suggestion why don't you do two subscriptions one for us Brits and one for those over the pond. Many people including Canadians would use proper English (British ) and wouldn't want their kids to use American English especially as they could get confused in school.
