The jury is still out on this one your thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

I am about to launch a new website with a niche that is close to my heart. So much so when I finished working in accountancy I did a diploma in this subject and have mentored for 6 years online. OK enough of the sell job.

Someone I have been emailing me has been part of the EasterJV giveaway. He wrote his own ebook to give away, and since written 5 other short ones. His thinking is that people would prefer something new to something everybody either has or can get cheaply. He asked if I could do him an ebook to give away at the next JV firesale. OK that's no big deal but it has caused me to get the site up and running even if it isn't going to be complete but there will be 3 ebooks (totally my own work) going for sale on the site, a short course plus this ebook that is being given away.

After all that if you are still with me you deserve a medal as I ramble on here. But here is my question.

I am going to put the books for sale with cafepress as some people like hard copies as well as ebooks. Both will be available. I am going to set up an affilate for the books but should I be thinking about resellers rights or master resellers rights. I am not going to put private labels on them because I know they will get changed etc. Anyway what are your thoughts about this?

I know Ros hasn't got resellers rights on her book, and that seems like the way to go, but any comments would be appreciated. What I might consider is a package of an specially written book for resale with maybe a website to go with it.

You might be wondering what the niche is and when the launch is. Watch this space and I will post it here so you can be the first to visit Very Happy and comment about the site what you hate and what you love.

I now have the first phase of the site uploaded. I need to put some resources on before starting out the advertising, but thought you might want to take a look.

Bev,
Very Nice!!! I think you've done an excellent job for whatever my opinion is worth. I found the site to be an interesting read, and I'm a guy that doesn't need a diet. In fact, my wife Tingting says I could probably stand to gain a few, hehe. Of course, some of these points apply to all of us such as exercise, good nutrution, etc.
You did a nice job with the XSitePro as well. I'm a dreamweaver user so I never tried it, but I've have heard many good reviews.
The site has the qualities that appeal to me. Nice color scheme and light on the graphics, yet nicely done. The text is easy on the eyes, not only in their size, but the spacing also allows the page to breathe.

I use firefox alot when I browse, and I noticed that your "add bookmark" doesn't work with firefox. I never found a script that does, actually, but I created a simple mod that will bring up a small message window for non compatable browsers which reads "Press Ctrl-D to add bookmark." If you would like to use it, your entire script would look like this.

<P><script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">

function addbookmark()
{
bookmarkurl="http://www.theperfectdietbook.com"
bookmarktitle="The Perfect Diet Book"
if (navigator.appName.indexOf("Microsoft")!=(-1)){
window.external.AddFavorite(bookmarkurl,bookmarktitle)
}
else {
window.alert("Press Ctrl-D to add bookmark.")
}
}
</script>
<A HREF='javascript:addbookmark()'>Bookmark This Site</A></P>

Anyway, that's my two cents, hope you found something useful out of this.Wink

Thanks Jack for the compliments. I am still working on the site at the moment. Thanks for the script I will make sure it goes on all my sites that was appreciated.

At some point I would like to move to dreamweaver but at the moment I don't really have the time I would want to spend learning it. A project for the future.

Thanks again
Bev

BTW the book is a give away, feel free to use it if you want. There are going to be some books on the subject launched soon.

something I would consider is to make a form for the subscribers instead of bringing them directly to an email.

Bringing them directly to email they might think:

-how am i suppose to get this course?
-what do i say in the email?

Bev, I don't know where you get all your energy. I love the layout of the site, and the idea. It sounds like the kind of book which actually educates people to eat healthily, rather than one of those rubbishy fads, which is great.

Now, don't hate me for this, but I want you to get this right as i think it's going to be a really great site. I think you need to talk to your site visitor more like you're talking to them specifically, and hit them with how the diet will benefit them on your homepage.

As for reseller rights etc - I have no idea what would work best, but hopefully someone else could help you.

I'm glad you've written a sensible book. I feel sick even thinking about the Atkins Diet - yuk.

Mike you are right about the form but here was my problem, I was trying to set up a form using hostgator and it was failing each time. I have no idea what I did wrong but it wasn't working. On our shopping site we have a form which is linked to the hosting so forms are a new thing for me to learn. I know the long term will be to join awber. But the problem I had was this, someone asked me if they could offer my book on a JV firesale, and of course the answer was yes because it was free advertising. But I needed a quick solution and that one worked. I will need to put something more info on the site about it, but the one advantage of doing it this way is you always get the right email address. I have so many dud emails on our shopping site that when I got an email suggesting this it seemed to solve the inital problem.

Hey Richerbrat how could we hate you. Very Happy I always value comments and as I say I did this site (dare I say it took me less than 1 hour from start to finish) that included getting the graphics done and also putting the free book together. Can you tell I had all the material for the book on my computer. I saved all my emails (did email mentoring for a diet site) and my weekly posts for mentoring.

I agree that the home page needs to have a more personal shot but what I said to Mike is the reason for it. I am working on it at the moment.

Resellers rights is a total work in progress I am using it for the moment to gauge responses and having a landing page but I am have a number of ideas for it. I am thinking adsense sites but not the general ones being thrown around. Maybe using one of those as a basis of the site, building it in xsitepro and giving the file or whatever it is called from there and adding in books that are relevant to that site. I am trying to use what I have on my computer in a more practical way.

I love some of the packages around by my little brain looks at them and thinks great books but where do they link together. I am putting a package up (should be later today) about pets. Makes sense to me to put the same topic together rather than a book from this and a book from there.

I love the comment and all our sites are a work in progress, we want them to remain work in progress keeping on improving as more things are learnt.

Bev,
Very well said. I have a feeling that when you are ready to take the plunge with aweber, you'll be very glad you did. I think it will probably solve your form problems too. Those nasty little spambots love exposed email addresses too, which is another reason a solution like aweber appeals to me. Besides, it's just a whole lot easier to do newsletters and manage your mailings. I'm still a new guy at the internet marketing side of things, so please keep in mind that this is an amateur opinion, hehe, but I am technology savvy, and I certainly have seen the value first hand. Very Happy

btw- I'm glad you liked the script! Very Happy

What error are you getting (or is it failing silently)?

If you'd like another pair of eyes to look at your form processing code, PM me (programmer, developer, etc. for years and years and years) - I can't promise major debugging work, but I'd be happy to take a quick look and see if I notice something obvious ...
