Can't I use any Affiliate program?

I'm building a site and was wondering if I need to go out and find an affiliate program to promote my site? Or, my understanding is that I go with what the stores that I'm linking with go with. All of what I sell are from affiliate companies and they choose which ones they go with.

Do I just fill out their information to join through them? So would I need to have my own?

Another question is if I did have products of my own to sell, where would be some information explaining how to set it up?

It sounds like you bought a 'ready-made' affiliate site package with programs already installed.

no. I am just a little confused. I still need to finish your "wonderful" book. It's taking me a long time so I'm just getting impatient and asking question that you have already explained. I was just wondering if each program offers certain things than others. Like clickbank offers e-books and I would have to go with the program that is linked to the merchant anyway right?

I will definitely do that as soon as I finish building the website. Were in the beginnings of it so it may take a couple of more weeks.
