|

Hey there,
I signed up for some affiliate programs via Linkshare. I need to fill out one of the four W-8 forms on the site in order to get paid. The W-8 form is for non-US residents.
I'm not sure which of the forms to use. The ECI one seems closest but there are some phrases in the explanation note that aren't true. For instance - "Claim that the income is effectively connected with the conduct of a trade or business in the United States." The affiliate program may be based in the US but I am based in Canada. I don't know if the 'buyers' are from the U.S. - they could be from anywhere in the world.
Has anyone else had to deal with this? Did you need to see a lawyer?

Hello Sue,
I'm in Canada and use a W-8BEN form. Nothing to it... no lawyer required.
Cheers,

Thanks Ros. I read the instructions for the W-8BEN and I see now how it applies to us. Phew...
Thanks again.
