Hi,

I'm quite new around here (and also to Internet Marketing). I took a 5-day email course on using Adwords to promote Affiliate links, but so far I've been getting clicks but no sales. My question is, on average, how many Ad Groups should I have and how long/persistent should I be before I start seeing results?

Thanks in advance.

Hi tcwatts,

Not seeing your ad or your site, it's hard to tell why you're not getting sales, however here's a few common reasons why you may not be getting sales.

Make sure you're not just sending someone to an affiliate site. Your site has to have good content as well.

Your site may not be providing the information the viewer is looking for. In other words someone may be looking for a specific product and they are being led to your home page where they must search for what they are looking for.

My experience has been to keep your ad group very tightly structured with your keywords.

For example, if you are selling sandals, you want to create a specific ad for each type of sandal. Perhaps women's sandals, beach sandals, mens sandals, dress sandals, wedding sandals, etc. You would have a specific ad for each type of sandal and your ad should take them to the specific page for each type of sandal, not your home page.

Also, there's no limit to the number of ad groups, the more the better. As far as how long to wait, I guess that's your call but a good ad, coupled with the right site should see a few sales within the first week.

Hope that helps,
Elizabeth

Thanks Elizabeth,

Basically what you're saying is that I should create a pre-sell site and not send them directly to the Affiliate site? That's what I've been doing so far, just buying Adword clicks to send them directly to the Aff site through my link...

I'll try and create more specific ads and link them to the products as per your suggestion...

Elizabeth,

There's some really good advice in your post. Lots of nails being hit on the head Smile

A lot of advertisers fail to use their PPC ads effectively by not targetting tightly enough and not sending visitors where they thought they were going to go.

Not only does this uncoordinated approach waste visitors' time, but also the advertisers money and the opportunity to make a sale.

Be specific in your ads. You know that people clicking on them will be interested in that specific thing. Take them where they want to go.

e.g. You sell widgets. You decide that advertising for widgets isn't tight enough so you advertise about your blue widgets in order to get those people wanting to buy blue widgets to your website. The destination on the other side of those clicks ought to be pages specifically about blue widgets - exactly what the potential customer expects to see.

If you send them to your home page then they may not see what they want right away and move on elsewhere or at least you're putting extra clicks inbetween them and your blue widgets.

Can you imagine how you'd react if you get tempted by a sign in the street for a specific item on sale in a shop, you walk into the shop and can't actually see the item that got you off the street in the first instance?

This type of thing annoys me as a consumer, never mind as an advertiser!
