How can I find simple, effective, and successful sites to check out?
I realize this is a sticky issue - because most people that have successful sites probably prefer to keap that quiet. |

| The question is... Why do you want to check out other sites... to copy or for inspiration? You can get tons of inspiration from template sites that are formatted for Search Engine friendliness. Check out OSWD and Robson Design Works theme catalogue for some good ideas on how to design your own website. |

When starting any business in the world you would be a compete idiot if you didn't thorough investigate your competition. If you go to a bank for a loan you have to have a formal business plan and that business plan better include a large description of your competition: what they do, how they do it, etc. And once you are in business, you better keep tabs on your competition or you will soon find you are in last place. My friend is an engineer for Ford. One of his jobs is to check out the engines of other cars. Ford spends millions and millions of dollars every year to purchasing their competitors cars. They have a large room that contains engines from every single car manufactured. They have their engineers drive the competition's cars for weeks. This is business 101. So keep your sanctimonious and not so subtle comments about "copying" to yourself, please.

I know how to design websites - I'm a programmer and I do that for a living. Developing a successful website affiliate system is a different story. A good place to start is to look at what has worked for others. |

Whew... temper... I didn't mean anything bad by my comment sundance... you were in the newbie's corner and so after reading your question, it was natural for me to assume you didn't know much about website design... And I didn't mean to imply that you would out and out copy anyones site... but newbies often copy a lot of different elements from websites without thinking that they're doing anything wrong.
Perhaps your question would have been better suited to one of the other threads as most people assume that the newbie's corner contains posts from those who are new to developing websites as well as new to internet marketing.
Again, I apologize if my comment rubbed you the wrong way, I certainly didn't mean it in the vein you took it. |

Callie,
Reading back over my comment I guess I was a little pissy. Please accept my apology. |
