Landing Pages

I've been searching around the net for examples of successful landing pages, but really haven't found anything.

I've seen some people send their PPC's to their home page, a relevant article, a long sales page, or a short name squeeze page.

Out of these types, which one's are the most succesfull?

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

I would suggest that a short name squeeze page would be the most effective if landing from a PPC advert and here's why...

You already know that the people who land on your squeeze page are interested in your offer (assuming you were misleading in your PPC advert) so you can now give them what they want in return for joining your list.

Once they're on your list you have further opportunities to generate additional sales with that person without the expense of more advertising.

It can depend on what you're trying to achieve through PPC.

If you sent your visitor to your home page or an article then what are they likely to do from there? Generally, people clicking on PPC adverts do so because they offer what they're looking for. If they don't see what it is they want on the other side of the advert then you might well lose their interest and your money on worthless clicks.

Let's suppose you have a website that sells widgets of all different colours. If your PPC adverts are very targetted e.g. you advertise blue widgets for sale, then you're more likely to get people, who want blue widgets, clicking on them.

You're then more likely to make a sale if you land them on a page that allows them to buy blue widgets than if you landed them on your home page and force them to continue searching for the elusive blue widgets they seek.

Consider who you're targetting and think about their needs. Put yourself in the shoes of the potential clicker. How would it benefit you to click on the advert and what would you expect to see on the other side?

Making sure I understand you better, if I make a name squeeze page, a person will opt-in to sign in for the newsletter (or whatever offer), and then after submitted, will be redirected to the piece of information the ppc ad advertised for.

If this is the case, are you using a double opt-in?

Also, I was thinking a person could enter fake information and then be redirected to the page anyways.

Double opt-in will be safer because it protects you from false submissions and you could always email the link to the information you originally offered in your first autoresponder message.

Have been experimenting with landing pages for affiliate products, and so far don't get a very good click through rate.

We cloak our affiliate links and use Google Adwords for ppc traffic. I assume that although our cloaked link shows our own domain name as the URL, using this link is still against Google's affiliate policy. Would this be correct?

As for the part about Google AdWords policy, without avoiding your question, it's always best to go to the source to be sure of accurate and up-to-date info. I'd suggest starting here and here.
