Hello all - can anyone discuss phrase matching a bit more - using quotes, brackets and broad matches in Google? I understand how to do this but.....when I create various ad groups of tightly associated keywords, should one of the ad groups contain: fresh apples, juicy apples, crunchy apples...and the next ad group "fresh apples", "juicy apples" and "crunchy apples" (same key words with quotes)...and lastly - the last group [fresh apples], etc...(same key words with brackets....) - it really wouldn’t make sense to have all of the keywords in every possible variation (quotes, brakets, broad match) in the same ad now would it????

Could anyone shed a bit of light on this for us?

Thanks

What's your motive for separating them out into separate ads?

Good question! I've been using the free AdWord Wrapper tool http://www.mikes-marketing-tools.com/adwords-wrapper.html - and it forms separate groups of Ads (phrase match, exact match, and assortment, etc). Is there an advantage to forming separate ad groups with these permutations? Easier to track?

Question 2: And it's a bit odd - why bid on Broad match in the first place - why not put every keyword in quotes or brackets to keep the search more relevant? Just a thought. But what do you think?

Thanks for the advice -

I don't understand what the benefits of splitting them out across multiple ad groups might be since the stats are grouped by key phrase anyway.

Why not just have them all in a single ad group? Wouldn't it be easier to test out which key phrases are converting better?

You don't have to use broad matching, but it can be useful when you're fishing for extra key phrases that you hadn't considered.

Hi Will,

First, you are right about broadmatch being less targeted.
If your working on a tight budget,
waiting to test broadmatch might be something to consider.

Testing would be the point however.
After a short test, when you know the keywords that are producing clicks.
THEY are the ones you want to split off into thier own group.

I could really go on for quite a while about it.
But I think I could just as easily help you and others with this by
telling you about a report put out just a few days ago by a top seo.

Ever heard of Brad Callen?

He put a report out to help his affiliates sell more of his stuff.
BUT, the information can be applied to any adwords campaign.
And it's really one of the best reports I've ever seen.

You can get it here:
http://ItsAllAboutTraffic.com/recommends/AdWordsMadeEasy.pdf

And if you still have questions, feel free to email me. Very Happy

Hope it helps!
Brad.

That was what I was hinting at by suggesting that broad matching could be used to fish for key phrases that hadn't been considered by scrittibear.

I was really asking scrittibear those questions to try and get a better understanding of what logic he/she was following!

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Thanks folks - I guess once I jump in head first I can try these techniques out - and yes - I will check out Brad Callen's report on keywords.

I also just posted a question about cloaking software on the general forum so check that out to if you want to show me just how smart all of you are!!

THANK YOU!!!!
