You can very easily purchase a domain name for $10 (or less, sometimes!) Don't even THINK of going through "Network Solutions" or other expensive registrars. What you get at the cheaper ones is everything you need (sometimes more, with the free forwarding, etc. many offer)
Just something I know from 7 years of website design...

Thank you Heather for the tip.
Where would I purchase on at that price?

Hi EdgarO,
I hope you don't mind me just joining in here.
I have just done a complete overhaul.
Initially, I signed up with 1and1.co.uk (being in the uk) and had their hosting package as well as domain names.
Everything became very clear about 4 or so weeks ago. I was being ripped off. Even their equivalent 1and1.com (USA and Canada) were about half the price they were charging us in the UK for domain name registration. I couldn't even register a domain with their USA counterpart as they limited it to only residents of USA and Canada! So this prompted me to do some serious looking around.
The best one I have found at the moment for:
Domain Names : NameCheap.com - $8.88 for a .com ; $2.88 for a .info (they also include WhoIsGuard as part of that price for the time being anyway).
Hosting : Hostgator - only been with them a few weeks, got a free trial with them for the first month to see how things go BUT compared to 1and1, I am very impressed. They have different packages available and at pretty good prices when you look at what they include in the package
I purchased my first domain name from namecheap at the same time as I set up my account with hostgator (both of them warned it could take 1 to 2 days before everything was working correctly and my new domain was pointing at my new hosting account).
2 HOURS LATER - my site was uploaded and was viewable to the world - that's what I call efficient AND IT WAS A SUNDAY!!
I hope that info was useful |

I use registerfly.com . I like it. 9.99 for .com and others...
$2.00 for info domains. They have very good domain panel where we can manage all websites easily.

Price alone can be a poor recipe for buying anything. I lease domain names from many different providers including 1&1 and Network Solutions to name but a few. When leasing domain names strictly for resale its fine to go with the lowest cost but when it comes to your golden egg domains it is worth the extra money to go with a company that has maintenance of a sterling reputation as part of their business goals.
