I assume you want your site to have a similar layout, not an exact copy (that would be bad, bad!). You can easily deconstruct her site if you know a little bit of CSS and HTML. I use the Firefox browser and a little plug-in called JSView, both available for free from Mozilla dot com. With JSView you can look at all of the CSS she uses to style her web page, and by right-clicking on her home page you can use 'View Page Source-JSView' to see the HTML for the page content. Use the Edit>Select All feature of your browser to copy everything, you can then paste it into whatever editor (Notepad works fine) you choose for creating your website.
I strongly suggest you make it your own somehow, as an exact or even near-exact duplicate is probably illegal.
The Blog software she uses appears to be Wordpress, freely available if you sign up with a hosting company like Siteground. They will even install it for you using the Fantastico installer program, customization is then up to you.
Good luck and keep it original! |

Are you saying this will give me the same layout and plugins. All I have to do is change the header, text, and misc. headings?
thank you for your time and help |

If you were to copy everything, html source code as well as the CSS, your site would look identical. It would only function properly if you changed some site specific code to make sure all the file references pointed to your site, not hers.
Are you familiar with html and css? If not, take a free tutorial (google 'css tutorials' and pick one of the million) and get up to speed, then start copying. But make sure you change it enough to make it yours. |

Hi again...
I posted this response back in the other section where it was originally posted...
I'll take that as a compliment.
This site is pretty much all hand-crafted as I like to tinker around with my site's design.
The header is a composite of a background that I found somewhere with my photo superimposed and I've just played around with the colors in the CSS (cascading style sheets) to change the font faces, sizes and colors.
If you don't want to get into 'tweaking' there are excellent templates available for Wordpress free of charge at:
http://themes.wordpress.net/
Otherwise, there are some excellent CSS tutorials at:
http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp
Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Ros |

Hi all,
This is all very interesting.
I have bought web hosting and have had an eBook store installed on it.
However, 'tweaking' is not allowed. I'm permitted to change the fonts (not the size), and the colours. that's it.
Apparently, The site is in PHP code which, the host assures me, is a "very advanced web language" and no-one is allowed to touch it.
So, no layout changes, no graphics, the header has to remain exactly the same size as when installed. No images, no Wordpress (no fantastico on Cpanel), a narrow link column on the left and no column for adsense on the right.
In fact, no adsense, that I can see. Also, HTML editors are not to be used, which means that I won't be able to upload any more product as all my pages are in HTML.
I guess that CSS, whatever that might be, is out of the question for me?.
I still use Explorer. I know everyone says that it's rubbish, but I've been using it for 14 years and I don't like to change. Firefox looks identical to me.
Why am I writing this? I have no idea. I'm just frustrated. I took 9 months over taking the website leap and finally let a friend of mine talk me into using the same host as her. She told me that her site was a generic one and that she just re-designed it. he told her what to do and gave access to his codes.
When I ask a question I'm just told it can't be changed. He has obviously sussed that my friend is clever and I'm a moron who shouldn't be allowed to touch anything.
True, but I don't like being reminded. I won't put a link to the site, here, it's not submitted to any search engines and never will be. |
