I am amazed or naive take it whichever way you like at the stupidity of some of these gurus. Maybe they are self proclaimed but I wont make judgment on them. I get an email a few days ago about a never to be missed offer. You wont find this anywhere on the internet. Blah! Blah! Blah! so I take a peak and think OH that's so interesting (please read scarcastic humour here) I have these never to be found ebooks which are being offered as a sweetener on my computer, but you wont find them anywhere else. Ah! But they said these have Private Labels, yes but so do mine.
But then you can get 40 adsense site never seen before, take a look. Right go to ebay and buy them for a couple of squid (sorry pounds for the non Brits here). And this never to be seen is limited to 250 so the internet wont be saturated. Right again. Today I get up and get the same never to be found offer on the web by 5 different gurus.
Hey how can this get limited to 250 when these guys are supposed to have thousands on their lists. Yes do they every read what they are sending out or do they just see the $'s that they get promoting this stuff.
Maybe I should stick all my stuff as an exclusive never to be found again, and say it is a late birthday party or a special for the ladies to celebrate ladies day in China or a firesale or a I am feeling happy because I bought chocolate day (well someone has to be first on that one) and cut the price by half and see how many people turn up.
Do they really think we are all so stupid?
BTW do they not know there are laws about misrepresenting sales of goods.
Gripe over back to webdesign and making proper money.
One of these so called gurus gave me a free website and the keywords was unbelievable. Most had absolutely nothing to do with the site but a promise of first place and loads of busk if you do a PPC for each keyword. Yeah right put how many thousand dollars into google.

Hi Bev,
You'd be amazed at how many people DO buy into these offers. It's the proverbial 'get rich quick' mentality at work and it's SO sad!
Cheers,

Ros thanks for letting us have a place to vent here. No it doesn't surprise me that people buy these things wanting to get rich without any work.
I get the free offers often or buy some of the stuff but normally because I think it could help me in the long run. Take some of the ebooks doing the rounds, I look at them and look at all the things not to do.
Some of the many things I like about your book is it is full of useful information, it is easily to find things because if I want to check something I can without having to read it through each time, good number of pages etc. It is the sort of book I wouldn't object paying good money for a hard copy if it wasn't available in pdf format.

Those pitches make me crazy too - don't get me started on the "limited offer, make millions on adsense" nonsense!
I'm on another forum (domain trading - a side hobby of mine) where at least once a week some newbie who has never sold ANYTHING online or off, hasn't the smallest clue about building or running a website, buys a marketing themed name and decides they're going to build an internet marketing site (read: "banner farm ) and make zillions of dollars ... First cousin to the folks who do those "exclusive offers" ...
Arrrggghhh!!!!!!!!! |

The good thing about this is that we KNOW they'll never make a penny doing so.
The sad thing is that they are wasting their money because they haven't figured out that there's no such thing as 'get rich quick' yet.
Poor things.

I read an ebook today which I am selling on my site (like to at least read before selling) and it says that the average affiliate makes only one sale and then gives up. I assume they spend so much money on ppc trying to sell clickbank items without a website that they give up, or realise that affiliate marketing isn't a get rich quick scheme.
I am glad to report that I am not an average affiliate marketer. I have made more than one sale. Today was another good day and lots of sales coming in now.
Only one way to go now, learn, improve and add to sites. |

Well it's always nice to know that us "newbies" are seen as gullible fools. Some of us actually are NEWBIES and know nothing about these things. I personally don't expect to 'get rich quick' on anything that I eventually attempt on here...to date, I've only purchased one 'ebook' which had some information in it that I"m sure will be of good use to me at some point in the future....as for now....it 'assumes' that a person has a general knowledge of things like website design..writing/submitting articles, adsense, keywords, and the list goes on. Needless to say, I apparently am NOT your average 'newbie' as I know nothing about any of it. This makes some people 'get rich quick' by preying upon those of us who honestly don't know much about these things by selling us ebooks, programs, get rich quick schemes, etc ..and of course they have the knowledge to make there site seem professional (in most cases) Luckily I have managed to find a couple of these forums to use as a helpful (?) guide in my search for a better understanding of what I'm trying to do on here and in which direction I want to go. But, in all honesty, at times I am finding myself asking if Im better off or just more confused. (I"m leaning towards the more confused) I read on and on and on,as many posts as I can until my eyes are falling off and when I think I"m gaining on something, another post I read is saying it's garbage and a waste of time.....seems it's all in one persons point of view vs. anothers. No matter, this newbie will continue to read on until maybe someday I have a 'slight' idea of what to stay clear of and what to make a stab at. I was leaning towards affiliate marketing/clickbank (something small to start with until I get my feet wet and NOT expecting to make a gazillion dollars overnight)....figuring out HOW to make a website for something like that, but maybe that's not the way to go? I'm clueless once again My apologies for rambling....I'm sure this is not the place for it in this forum, but I just had this urge to voice something here.......no offence was intended to anyone or to this forum by anything I've said here..... |

For Taubin... confused is a natural state when you try to absorb everything at once, and worse when it is out of order. You're better off focusing on one element of internet marketing (affiliating, ebaying or whatever), buying yourself a good book and starting there. Once you get a 'handle' on things (build a site, sell a few things), then you're better able to meander around looking for clues to how to do things better or more efficiently or faster or using technie software. Until then, relax and focus.
Shaners... I'm always on the warpath with those who sell my book on eBay. They should close the thieves accounts, but they don't, so I just keep on watching for them. |
