Hi Ouida,
Are you wanting to write your own ebook or are you looking to resell books.
If you are creating your own, then PDF is a good way to go. You can convert a word document to PDF at http://www.neevia.com for free.
Yes, you can promote digital ebooks on Ebay as long as they are your own ebooks or you have resale rights to sell them - be sure to read the rules as there are different rules for digital products than for other products on Ebay.
Clickbank is the place to go if you want to find other people's products to promote or you want to allow affiliates to sell your own products.
Cheers,
Suzanne |

The best ebook software I have seen is Ebook Pro It has a lot of great features including one which stops your ebook getting given away for free, or shared with others.
If you want to write your own product, I would recommend choosing a niche which you have a lot of interest in, and have either a lot of knowledge on, or would enjoy acquiring that knowledge. But, if you have no writing experience at all, I would not recommend starting with an ebook. Writing a blog on your topic would get you into the practise of writing regularly.
You could buy the rights to sell someone elses ebook which has gone out of print.
There are some ebooks for sale on amazon, but not loads. Selling your own ebook on ebay is a good idea, and a great way to get started.
Using your own website to promote your ebook is a good idea, as is recruiting affiliates to sell it for you.
Good luck - you have a lot of work ahead of you. Writing something of great length will take you a long time, but if you are serious, there's plenty of resources out there - try www.writersdigest.com which contains a lot of links and resources.

As a writer I would say if you want to do your own ebook start writing and don't edit it immediately. You should be able to get the book written in short chapters fairly easily especially if it is something you have knowledge about. Also if you are like me get a goal and stick at it.
When I was approached to "ghostwrite" a book I had a meeting with author and publisher (Harper Collins) who basically told me the author hadn't met any deadlines hence the reason for a ghostwriter and I had 6 weeks to complete the task. I then discovered not even the first chapter had been completed by the author. I was given the project 1 week before Christmas and it had to be finished by the end of Jan. Yikes but it did get finished all handed to them on time and the book published on the correct date. It can be done but it will take time and effort. |

RB. Does this software work the same as a pdf creator which has security features?
I use a paid pdf creator for my books and have security on them which doesn't allow them to be copied or edited. |

Hi Bev, Thanks for link to e-book, am going to get Becky to review it this week, as it will be holidays and hopefully she will use it too.
Ebook pro is flexible - you can either set it up as a free ebook, with an email to a friend option, if you want to create a viral campaign. You can even set it so it can only be shared with one person, or there are security settings that enable you to lock it so it can't be shared at all.
I am impressed that you managed to ghostwrite a book that quickly, but you must have been under a lot of pressure. My mum does the same as you - she writes a lot and edits later. She says she would never get past the first few pages otherwise.
I like ebook pro a lot, but it is not cheap. How much is the pdf creator you use Bev? |

RB it was a joint effort in the end. It was over the Christmas period so no work. Had my husband typing up a manuscript, the person had done some audio, and then I rewrote the manuscript and worked like 16 hours a day. My husband got up for work around 4 am and he would kick the printer off to print the latest version. You have to remember we only had an old computer and slow printer at the time.
It did give me an open door to write my own book (when I get time) and have it published by Harper Collins. They said to contact them anytime I want to publish.
www.cutepdf.com costs $49.95 but you can download a trial version which I did to start with. It comes with various other offers at the moment as it is a special. I would download the trial version. I played around with that for a couple of weeks and decided to go for the full version.
I like cute because I have their ftp. One thing to look at in the UK is the computer mags because often you can get great software free which is something missing in the US. My ftp is a full working version which I registed but got from a computer mag on the CD/DVD on the outside. The same is true for some other software I use. We miss that out here in HK but will check it out when we come back to the UK in Sept. |
