Your Thoughts on the Summit?

Did you go to Affiliate Summit 07 West in Vegas? What did you think?

  • Did you have a full or limited conference pass?
  • From which presentation did you learn the most?
  • Which was more valuable to you? The presentations or the networking?
  • What were your best take-aways?
  • Would you recommend the Affiliate Summit to others? If so, what type of marketer do you think would benefit most? Newbies or advanced affiliates? Merchants? Managers?

Hey Ros,
I appreciate your blog. I’ve been a reader of yours for a while. I have an opportunity to attend all of the Affiliate Summits and Ad-Techs as well and should be at all of them this year. I work in the interactive industry and actually am involved with a top education affiliate program I work in for a major interactive company as well as running my own affiliate products outside of that so I have a lot of knowledge on various models in the affiliate industry. I’d like to throw in my 2 cents about the Summit. We were actually exhibitors at the Summit - I was supposed to make it to some sessions but just didn’t have time as this was one of the most fruitful Summits in regards to networking contacts. A lot of good people out there I met and look forward to doing business with. Although I couldn’t make it to any of these sessions, I do think speaking from past experiences, the sessions could be a little more specific or in detail as they often seem to be very general. I guess good info for someone getting into the industry. The networking was very good at this Summit. The benefit for the marketer - whether publisher or advertiser all depends on if your walking the floor, exhibiting or going to the sessions. As an exhibitor, we benefited most by the networking contacts. If you’re a newbie, perhaps the sessions would be best and talking to others in the industry. If you’re a publisher walking the floor, visiting the booths and going to the sessions would be beneficial.

Either case, I would recommend the Affiliate Summit if you’re serious about Affiliate Marketing. I actually got to meet Ken Evoy at this Summit.

Last note: I was at the Tryst party as well. Wish I would have gotten a chance to meet you as I’ve been a long time subscriber to your newsletter plus I’ve purchased some of your products. Appreciate the opportunity to chime in. Rosalind, if you’ll be at the Ad-tech in San Francisco or the Affiliate Summit in Miami, or actually any other Affiliate convention, I’d love to meet you ; )

Thanks again,
Chad

Hi Roz,
On a full pass, I learned the most from e.Harrington (FTC).Networking was most valuable, especially meeting and chatting with you,my mentor in blog classroom.Highly recommend to newbies.I came away knowing expansion of my fledgling business is not only possible but will be fun and productive. Arriving home in swampy Louisiana, I found word press bug ridden, so have spent two days backing up and installing 2.1-the 2nd fix in a week.Great to meet you and am sticking with your handbook as my guide.

Chad…

Thanks very kindly for the synopsis and I have to completely agree with what you said about who benefits most from what at the Summit. Too bad that you didn’t get to some of those Sessions though. The few I attended were very well done. And yes, I’ll let everyone know which conferences I’ll be at, so you can hit me up beforehand to arrange a time to meet. (Found out the hard way that using the board doesn’t work that well.)

David,

It was a pleasure to meet you and I too thought the FTC presentation was excellent. Although I didn’t exactly get the response I was hoping when I spoke to Ms. Harrington later about irrelevant ads on Google. Oh good, they know about the problem. Sheesh.

Hope you got your WP issues sorted out…

Cheers,
Ros
