Train Your Affiliate Managers Better
So, the other day I receive the following comment on my blog from an affiliate manager asking me to participate in a launch.
Note: Identifying comments, names, etc. have been removed.
Hi Netprofitstoday.com owner,
My name is ____ and I am ____’s
affiliate manager for his _____ Formula.
(www.____.com)___ told me to contact you personally to see
if we can develop a joint venture business
relationship together…I understand you have a high-traffic site in
the biz opp niche. We have a product that converts VERY WELL
for biz opp traffic. In fact, we have one affiliate that logged
over 100 sales in 3 days…We were also able to drive 100+ sales
to ONE of our jv partners with 2 emails.Let me know if you’d like to work with us.
I have a few ideas on how we can help each
other increase the value for our visitors,
your customers and both our bottom lines.Regards,

HELLO?
Contact me ‘personally’?
Then why did this affiliate manager (I use the term loosely) write to “Netprofitstoday.com owner“???? My name is Rosalind, which is really easy to figure out if you spend all of 1 second reading this blog.
No real affiliate manager would post a jv request as a comment on my blog under a totally irrelevant post, when my contact (Support Desk) information is posted on every page of this site.
We have a product that converts VERY WELL for biz opp traffic.
Really… good for you. For WHAT product? Where can I look at it? How do I sign up as an affiliate IF I like it?
In fact, we have one affiliate that logged over 100 sales in 3 days…
Good for him or her!!! For all I know, you’re selling it for 99 cents and they earned 10% commission for a grand total of $10.00.
Yee-freakin-HA!
Sheesh.
C’mon guys, spend a little time working with those affiliate managers and train them how to approach real JV prospects properly… you’re losing money.

I completely agree Rosalind. I spent many hours working on preparing one JV proposal to tailor the jv, the deal, and the product (if applicable) to that one potential jv partner.
I wouldn’t give a proposal like you received a second thought. It’s no better than the spam comments received “I like this topic, good post to read.”

Amen, amen, AMEN! It’s as lame as stacks of link exchange emails I get each day that, despite the bright red letters that state that we no longer participate in reciprocal link exchange services, often start with:
Dear Sir/Madam/Webmaster: (apparently we webmasters have our own gender…)
I have just visited and thoroughly reviewed all your site and resource area, and found that your site is a great resource for my site’s visitors (or words to that effect).
What’s really cool is when I get nine more identical emails in the same hour, each coming from a different phony name, within nothing changed but the site name. Yes, it’s so personal I could just weep.
Want to work with me? Talk with ME – human to human, webmaster-gender notwithstanding.
I was just promoted to Affiliate/Social Media Manager (YAY ME!!) and have to say that even with my somewhat untrained eye the problems with that letter were shockingly obvious! Thanks for the giggles Ros.
Can’t wait for affiliatebloggerpro.com !!
With smiles,
~Nikki
Congratulations on your new position, Nikki! Although I’d hardly categorize someone with your advanced experience in affiliate marketing as having an ‘untrained eye’.
Cheers,
Ros
You tell ‘em Rosalind!
Get in Ros!
Slap ‘em with a wet flannel!
These are internet marketing flies.
Yes…they s’@5t everywhere the go!
Rather than lose the time to train an affiliate manager, would it not make more sense to hire someone already knowledgeable? Most I’ve met are handling more than one marketer’s affiliate program, so they are available out there.
For my money, it’s on the potential managers’ shoulders to learn the biz and develop the contacts BEFORE they apply to represent anyone’s program.
Unless, of course, you already have lots of free time to train someone?
Nice…a spam JV request. Ya gotta luv it. Ros, you do quality and they do…er….well…let’s keep it G rated.
Nothin’ I like better than a good rant though. I should do them more often.
Rex
Dear Ros
Couldn’t stop laughing – the joke of the day – i loved it.
They got MUCH to learn!!!! :O)
Al the best
Den-Mark :O)
I take your point, we must make sure that real affiliate manager or not. I like you inform us, so we can understand that you didn’t write like that, you always post with your name right?! Thanks Rosalind.
