Bloggers: Having Problems with Technorati Indexing and Display?
Technorati has been acting very strange of late.
Last week, all my sites were indexed and the posts were displaying correctly. Then a post that I made on Roamsters (about Baggallini bags and tagged ‘baggallini’) showed up almost immediately and now can’t be found for love nor money (literally).
Weirder still, the Roamsters blog no longer seems to be indexed - while this one shows up sporadically.
I noticed on that a lot of folks are complaining of similar problems on the Technorati forum, but was wondering if any NPT folks had noticed the same strange happenings… and if so, were you able to correct it?
Now, let’s see if this post shows up….

Carl Ocab: 14-Year Old Ranks #1 in Google for “Make Money Online”
It’s hard to believe that a 14 year old kid who started his blog just this past summer, would rank #1 on Google for a highly competetive keyword phrase like “make money online”, isn’t it?
Well, it’s true.
After attempts to make money online with a tech blog and then a gossip blog failed, Carl Ocab says he was “Heavily Inspired by my Dad, I tried my best to find a broad topic that I can blog about for ages”, so he started blogging about how to “Make Money Online with a 13-year old”.
What a great hook!
And although you might be skeptical that the genius behind this effort is really only 14, reporters Annalyn Jusay and Abe Olandres from Manila who have interviewed Carl, both verify his age (with pictures) and also comment on his outward shyness.
Online, he doesn’t seem so shy - with a big ad plastered in his top navigation that reads “I’m on the frontpage of the bloody competetive keyword “make money online” which goes on to an advertisement for placing your advertising on his site. Smart!
Here are a few posts to check out:

Carl’s site is highly worth a look if you want inspiration or linking opportunities from his blog via reviews, advertising, guest blogging and comments.

Cyber Monday Online Retail Spending Hits Record $733 Million
Here are snippets from a comScore press release about Cyber Monday online spending… and it’s good news all ’round.
RESTON, Va., Nov. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — comScore, Inc. (Nasdaq: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released an update of holiday season e-commerce spending covering the first 26 days (November 1 - 26) of the November - December 2007 holiday season, including spending totals for Cyber Monday (November 26). More than $10.7 billion has been spent online during the season-to-date, marking a 17-percent gain versus the corresponding days last year. Cyber Monday saw $733 million in online spending, representing a 21-percent increase versus last year and an 84-percent jump from the average daily online spending totals during the preceding four weeks.
“Cyber Monday is an important day during the online holiday shopping season, representing the first significant spike in online holiday spending activity,” said comScore Chairman Gian Fulgoni. “Cyber Monday once again set a record with $733 million in sales, the first time a single day of online retail spending has broken the $700 million threshold. While that makes it the heaviest online shopping day on record, we expect that a number of individual shopping days during the coming weeks will surpass the Cyber Monday total, with some days potentially surpassing $800 million.”
Some other notable findings for Cyber Monday 2007 include:
- The number of online buyers was up 38 percent compared to Cyber Monday 2006, while the average dollars spent per buyer was down 12 percent. The decline in dollars per buyer may be due to two factors — deeper and broader price discounts offered by online merchants this year and the fact that “new Cyber Monday buyers” tended to spend less online than returning buyers.
- 6 percent of the Internet users on Cyber Monday made an online purchase.
- 44 percent of Internet users on Cyber Monday shopped online (i.e. visited an online retail site or used a comparison shopping engine)
- 60 percent of dollars spent online on Cyber Monday came from work computers, with the balance coming from home and university computers.
On Cyber Monday, most of the top online retail sites experienced significant gains in the number of visitors. Amazon Sites saw the most visitors on Cyber Monday 2007, up 26 percent gain versus the same day last year and up 50 percent compared to the average daily visitors during the four weeks leading up to Cyber Monday. Six out of the top ten retail sites saw their visitors more than double compared to the daily average over the four weeks preceding Cyber Monday. Apple’s modest gains are the result of consistently high traffic levels during the weeks preceding Cyber Monday.

NPT Digest: My All-Time Favorite Software and more…
I hope all of my U.S.-based friends enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and that everyone had a great weekend. Since the last NPT digest, I posted 7 entries to the NPT blog, a couple of new articles and 1 video.
There’s some affiliate program news, including SO Glad I Checked the Junk Mail…, Amazon Affiliate Program: Holiday Promotions and Ingenio Acquired by AT&T.
If you’ve ever been concerned about giving your email address out to some unknown entity, GeurillaMail is a service that gives you disposable addies that last for 15 minutes.
Wordtracker is continuing its discount promotion through to the end of November Promotion.
If you’ve been waiting for video production software, and don’t already have Camtasia Studio loaded, you should definitely jump on Camtasia’s offer to Download Camtasia Studio 3 for Free. I paid $319 for that software back in March of 2005 and now you can have it for nothing. Sweet!
Too, be sure to take a look at the video about my all-time favorite software. It’s a wonderful little productivity tool that saves me bags of time and costs peanuts.
Last, but not least… you can still “Rename the Office Bear: Win a $25 Amazon Gift Certificate“. There is no limit to the number of suggestions that you can make… just make them one comment at a time, please.
Til next time — Promote and Prosper!

Download Camtasia Studio 3 for Free
Yeeha! You read that right! I just heard via Jeff Mulligan (CBMall) that with the recent introduction of Camtasia Studio 5, the nice people at Techsmith are making Camtasia Studio 3.1.2 absolutely free to download.
That version is actually a few steps up from the version 3.0 that I’ve used to make my videos, including the most recent one which is probably not the best example, but the BlogClassroom videos are under lock and key.
You can use Camtasia to record, edit and share your screen videos and it’s pretty easy to get up and running with it, even if you’re not a geek.
To get the free version:
- Download the free trial version of Camtasia Studio 3 (Executable file - Not an affiliate link).
- To get the software key, click the link to register.
- Install and open the program and enter the software key and you’ll have a full working version.
You’ll be able to upgrade to Camtasia Studio 5, later if you want to for only $149, as opposed to the usual $299… but Version 3 should give you all you need.
Enjoy!

Perfect Keyboard: My All-Time Favorite Software
I can hardly believe that I’ve never told you about my all-time favorite software before!
It didn’t really occur to me until I was at AdTech in New York and was dealing with the frustration of having to work without it because I’d forgotten to load it onto my laptop … again!
Later in the conference, during a discussion about software with some webmaster friends, I mentioned my oversight and was absolutely shocked to learn that some of them did not use this software.
WHAT?
I honestly thought that all computer users (not just webmasters) would not only know about - but rely on - this fantastic little productivity tool that reduces workload and saves a heap of time.
Check out this video to see how slick how it works.
For more information, check out my article Perfect Keyboard Pro: My All-Time Favorite Software .
Click here to order Perfect Keyboard. The product has a 30-day money back guarantee and is available in 3 editions… Lite, Standard and Pro. While I use the Pro version, the Standard version ($29.95) will be more than suitable for most.

SO Glad I Checked the Junk Mail…
Found this note dated November 21st from the Expedia affiliate program in my Junk Mail box today… and I’m glad I checked!
We will be migrating the Expedia.com Affiliate Program from the BFAST/BeFree Affiliate Network to the Commission Junction Network. The migration is scheduled to start during the second week of December.
Some of the benefits of the migration include:
- Increases in air and agency hotel standard commission rates
- A bonus program for package sales during the first 90 days after the migration
- Use of the Commission Junction interface technology
- Automatically updating banners
- Return Days (coming summer 2008)
You will have to apply to the Expedia.com - Commission Junction Affiliate Program once our program goes live in December.
They further advise that existing affiliates will have to apply to the Expedia program again through CJ, and that they’ll be sending additional details including a link to join the new program in the coming weeks.
Man, I hope it’s not another They Love Me, They Love Me NOT situation similar to the one I experienced with Dell. That would mean I’ll be removing (instead of replacing) a LOT of links from the travel blog.
Aargh… either way, I think I’m way overdue for an ad server.

Ingenio Acquired by AT&T
AT&T Inc. announced today that an AT&T subsidiary has agreed to acquire Ingenio, the leading provider of Pay Per Call® technology.
The transaction is expected to close in early January 2008 and AT&T plans to integrate Ingenio’s Pay Per Call solutions into its directory service and local search advertising portfolio, including the YELLOWPAGES.COM Network, AT&T Real Yellow Pages and 1-800-Yellow Pages. To read the full press release, click here.
What does this mean to Ingenio Affiliates?
Ingenio advises that they “don’t have a lot of specific information to share with you” but that “your Ingenio Pay Per Call affiliate account will continue to operate in the same manner you are accustomed to” and that they will “keep you posted on key developments as they occur“.
Please… no more link changes! I’m already overwhelmed by the thought of Expedia’s upcoming migration to Commission Junction.
