NPT Digest: The Internet Marketer’s Laundry List
OK, so what the heck was I thinking?
This week I…
- Wrote more new content for the Super Affiliate Handbook, including a chapter called “Limes are Greener” - an approach to using Google Adwords that not many people utilize.
- Then did rewrites on my rewrites…
- Tried to get THOUSANDS of current SAH owners to confirm/validate their email addresses…
- Got carpal tunnel syndrome trying to respond to all the Spam Arrest verifications, so figured out a better way to handle the SAH update…
- Built 3 new web pages to support that ‘better way’…
- Teed up a deal with Joel to handle the SAH updates starting on WEDNESDAY (tomorrow).
(Hint: Don’t surprise your Virtual Assistant.
He or she is your most important link to sanity in this business. - Found a ‘better approach’ to Blog Alerts and got fixed that up in Aweber.
(Hint - don’t try to build a new list of blog subscribers. Set the rss-to-email to feed to your current list.) - Had a TOTAL bird when I thought that 5 previous blog posts were being automatically delivered to my whole list.
(Another hint - don’t set the feed up to run ‘automatically’). - Had another bird when I broke my blog … again!!
(Don’t look at it in Firefox, please.) - Posted a job at Elance to get the blog fixed.
Still waiting for the right geek to come along
… - Wrote a press release for a new website…
- Set up the ‘Best PLR‘ challenge that required reading and pondering…
- Selected the winners of that challenge.
- Sent all the ‘TV Stars‘ zipped Handbook files that contained NOTHING…
(I’m STILL working that one out)… - Wrote an outline for my next Revenue mag article…
- Bought and read an interesting marketing manual for poker affiliates…
- Have been watching Sterling Valentine’s countdown to his BIG LAUNCH DAY (today) with great interest…
- …and last but not least… wrote this post.
Phew!
OK, that might not seem like much until you know that I was also getting ready to leave home for another month.
(Yes, Anik, I know you told me not to take any more vacations, but I can’t help myself.)
Anyway, spring planting, mowing, raking and trimming (hacking, really) a half acre lot really leaves me wondering why I fired the gardener who ‘came with the house’.
Actually, I thought it would be good exercise and boy, I was RIGHT!
Tuesday morning I fly to Toronto to help my brother and best friend, Ed, finish packing up his house. In 2 weeks we’ll be taking another 2 weeks to sight-see our way back out West.
Yup.
He’s moving in!
Really, what the heck WAS I thinking? (Probably that he likes to cook, and I don’t!)
Anyway, it’s getting late and I have yet to pack. More importantly, I need to find out whether Izzie killed Denny.
Have a GREAT week!
Cheers,
Ros
P.S. As for what I was thinking… actually, this is all alot of FUN!

Sterling Valentine - Live Webcast Tonite
How does someone with no list and virtually no experience on the ‘Net manage to joint venture with the biggest names in the business?
Find out tonite, (May 15th) at 8:00pm Eastern during a Live Webcast with Sterling Valentine and Mark Joyner, author of “The Irresistible Offer”.
After the call you’ll also have 90 minutes to download a “mindmap key” available only to those on the call.
You’ll also get a chance to win one of 3 copies of the JV Formula that Sterling is giving away during the call.
Go ahead,
Popularity: 2% [?] There were TWO winners in last week’s “Best PLR” challenge - Batsirai and Beverly - who both received a copy of the newly revised Super Affiliate Handbook. The challenge was to tell me how and why - in 100 words or less - Becky Hagel and I chose the two winning articles in the original “PLR Challenge“. The original article that was to be revised was “Tips to Choosing a Nursing Home“. Here are the revised winning articles submitted by Jean and Jim: Here is Batsirai’s submission: Both articles captured me - and I guess you - from the first paragraph. They did this by using such visual language. They told a story. They engaged our imaginations. They help the content apply to our personal situations. They spoke directly to us throughout the article. Speaking in layman’s terms all the while providing insights we could immediately apply. I felt like they must have done this before, because of the intimate, personal style of writing. This created a level of trust in what they were saying – making it more likely for me to act on any suggested actions. Here is Beverly’s submission… in exactly 100 words! Both Beverly and Batsirai really understand what makes for good article writing. I especially like Batsirai’s introduction “Both articles captured me…”. By using the active verb ‘captured’, his introduction captured me! Great work! To recap in a nutshell what makes for a great article (your own articles or private label right article rewrites), here are the main points to consider: Compelling Title - ULTRA important! No one will read your article if your title doesn’t grab them right away. If you need help with developing titles, you might want to consider the software “Headline Creator Pro“. Make it Personal - Don’t be afraid to use the word ‘I’ and tell your story. People relate to real people, so share your real self. The Finer Points - Grammar and spelling do count. Mispelled words and terrible grammar make readers pause and question an author’s credibility. When in doubt, use a spellchecker. Happy Writing! Cheers, Popularity: 3% [?] Hi All! Just wanted to drop a line to let you know that the newly update version of the Super Affiliate Handbook will be made available to all current owners either for no charge or at a steep discount depending on the date on which you purchased the Handbook. Please look for an email from me over the next week containing instructions on how to access the revised edition. If you purchased your Super Affiliate Handbook prior to December 15th, 2005, you will be required to validate your addition to the “Handbook Owners” list before receiving instructions on how to get your discounted upgrade. Sorry about that. There’s a lesson for those interested in using Clickbank to sell products online … It is great as an inexpensive payment processor, but you need to have a system like DLGuard in place right from the beginning to continually build your customer list. Otherwise you’ll be stuck uploading addresses, like I’m doing at the moment, and Aweber restricts the number you may upload per day. So, of 2000 people who were sent notices yesterday, only 494 people confirmed acceptance. Please validate! You won’t receive instructions otherwise, and both the complimentary upgrade and discounted offer will end on May 31st, 2006. Thanks ever so kindly for your patience. Cheers, Popularity: 2% [?] While writing the follow-up to ‘Humor Writer Cries in Beer as Pitch to Affiliates “Strikes Out”‘ which detailed Dan Reinhold’s improvements to “WAHumor Way, I stumbled across a situation which could be posing a problem for other Clickbank merchants. In the follow-up post, I planned to include PAYOUT information gathered from the Clickbank Marketplace about Dan’s ebook. Payout information includes commission amount, % referred, and the category in which a product is listed. Using Clickbank’s BETA search feature, I typed ‘WAHumor’ into the box and searched through ‘All Categories’. No luck. Then I tried ‘WAHumorWay’, ‘WAHumor Way’ and ‘Reinhold’. No luck. No luck and… you guessed it - No luck. I then tried my new favorite Clickbank search tool, CBNichebuilder, hoping it would find Dan’s book. Again - NO luck! It occured to me that Dan may have listed the book under a different title soI would have to resort to a page-by-page search through the Marketplace. Because his book is about home business, I started searching through the ‘Home Business’ subcategory under the main category of ‘Money & Employment’. I found 347 products listed under that category (click-by-click through 35 pages) and not one of them was Dan’s book. I was through wasting my time, so I sent Dan an email and asked him where it was listed. He responded a little later to say that he couldn’t find it either! Aaargh. The next morning I received the following email from Dan: Ros, This is from my account page: Product category: -> uncategorized Does that work? Dan Um… nope! “Uncategorized” apparently doesn’t work if you want affiliates to find your product in the Marketplace and promote it! If YOUR product is currently uncategorized, contact Clickbank today to have it categorized. It will be then be listed in the Clickbank Marketplace within 5 - 7 days. Happy listings! Cheers, P.S. Sure enough Dan’s book was listed in the Marketplace a week later as follows: 1) Wahumor Way To Work At Home Book Series. [ earn 50.0 % ] Popularity: 3% [?] Greetings! I hope you enjoyed a fantastic, fruitful week! It certainly looks like some of our ‘TV Stars’ did. I was swamped with replies to my ‘TV Star’ query for information from folks who read the Super Affiliate Handbook and are now ‘making it’ as affiliates. There’s the gent who picked the SAH up for the first time on April 3rd, 2006 and had already taken in 174.11. Then there were those who read the book awhile ago and are just about blowing my monthly figures out of the water! Lastly, there’s the fellow who read the SAH soon after it was published, then took the late Corey Rudl’s mentoring program and is now - get this - in the process of having a major motion picture made about the business that he went on to build. OK, he probably doesn’t need a ‘comp’ copy of the newly revised SAH. But everyone who wrote in (with actual figures) will get theirs in the next couple of days. Then there were our “PLR Challengers” who took the time to revise and submit Becky Hagel’s private label rights article for a chance to win a a copy of the revised SAH and a ‘Nichetastic’ membership. Phew! That was a LOT of reading by a LOT of talented writers! Kudos to you ALL! When it came down to choosing the ‘best’ rewrite however, it just couldn’t be done. We wound up with a tie between Jean Millard and Jim. Their revised articles are located (respectively) at: Congratulations Jean and Jim! Now, there’s a lesson. Try to avoid promises that involve rewriting almost an entire book and reading what amounts to several books in the span of a week. But here I go again with yet another challenge. In 100 words or less, (see… I did learn the lesson), tell me why Becky and I chose those two revised articles as our “winners”. Whoever comes up with the best answer will receive a comp copy of the Super Affiliate Handbook. Please submit your reason no later than Saturday May 13th, 2006 through the NPT support desk and type “Best PLR” in the subject line. Is your site ready for Mother’s Day? PLR Challenge
I have a challenge for you this week.
Many of you are already using PLR (private label rights) articles on your sites. Many more of you will likely choose to use PLR content in the future to build your site content more quickly and easily.
That’s great.
Content attracts search engine traffic like nothing else, and nothing is more important than providing GREAT content for your visitors.
Notice that I said ‘GREAT content’?
PLR articles in and of themselves are good, but when the same article gets used over and over again, as they are wont to do, the value of the content on your site decreases… as may your search engine rankings.
That wouldn’t be GREAT… or even good, for that matter.
So, what’s the challenge?
Well, you’ll find a HOT topic PLR article, supplied by Becky Hagel, here:
Your challenge is to re-write that article.
Make it unique using your own style.
The person who returns the best re-write, as judged by Becky and myself, will receive a complimentary membership to Becky’s Nichetastic site.
Nichetastic includes eight 10,000 word “private label” products that Becky personally researches and writes herself, plus a sales letter for each product, a keyword list and resale rights.
Learn more about Nichetastic.
I will also throw in a copy of the latest digital version of the Super Affiliate Handbook, due for release on (or about) May 10th, 2006.
Are you in?
Please submit the re-written article through the support desk at NetProfitsToday.com with “PLR Challenge” in the ticket subject line.
Even if you don’t participate this time, consider doing that exercise with other articles to both improve your writing skills and create unique content for your site.
Happy writing!
P.S. To learn more about PLR and how it works, visit my Private Label Rights information page.
P.P.S. Submissions should received no later than Sunday, May 7th.
Promote and prosper!
Cheers,
Ros

How NOT to Do a JV
If you’re not familiar with the term ‘JV’, it stands for ‘joint venture’, and basically it’s affiliate marketing on steroids.
Joint ventures always have a personal component, ie. the merchant contacts a potential affiliate with a ‘beefed up’ commission offer, or the affiliate contacts the merchant with a proposal to market their product in a ’special way’ … also for an improved commission rate.
I receive JV proposals each and every day.
Somebody somewhere told someone else that I know ’something’ about affiliate marketing.
Fair enough.
But how those JV offers are presented is almost as important as the JV itself, and in many cases the presentation will make or break the deal.
For example, I recently received a snail mail letter that went something like this:
Dear Rosalind,
My friend, So-and-So, doesn’t believe that affiliate marketing works.
I told him that I know a Super Affiliate (you) and that you would prove to him that it works.
Anyway, my friend wrote the ‘Blah-Blah’ book (which had nothing to do with any category in which I presently work) and I told him that you could sell it on the Internet for him.
If you’re interested in seeing a copy of the ‘Blah-Blah’ book, please contact me at the following (snail mail) address.
Signed,
Not-a-Clue about Joint Venture Marketing
(OK, so I made her name up.)
Egads.
If you have a product and want to do a joint venture with top-level marketers, please don’t send a letter that looks anything like the one above.
Here are 6 basic points to learn about joint ventureing from Not-a-Clue’s letter above:
- Don’t insult their business model, not even by proxy.
- Don’t assume anything - ‘you would prove to him that it works’.
- Make sure that the product is relevant to your potential joint venture partner’s business.
- Send them a copy of the material you want them to review.
- Include affiliate signup details.
- Provide e-contact details, not snail mail addresses.
If you want to learn more about joint venturing, Sterling Valentine is giving away a 54-page report called ‘The World’s Most Shocking Joint Venture Mistakes’ .
Better yet, he and Dr. Joe Vitale are doing a teleconference on the subject tomorrow night, May 2nd… time yet to be announced.
BTW, try to ignore the music on the site… the faster you sign up for the report, the faster the obnoxious sound goes away.
Cheers,
Ros
