What Can We Learn from the Rich Jerk?
While doing research online at Google not long ago, I spotted an Adword that read:
"I'm Rich. You're Not.
If you don't make $3 Million per
year like me, you're pathetic."
http://therichjerk.com
Whoa! Talk about offensive and arrogant!
Got my attention in a big way, though.
I couldn't resist.
I just HAD to click on the ad, which took me to a salespage belonging to an Internet Marketer who calls himself the 'Rich Jerk'.
How appropriate.
But the 'Rich Jerk', as he calls himself, makes no apologies for his arrogance.
Indeed, he seems to revel in it.
The first thing you'll read on his salespage is:
"Don't Waste My Time..... Lets get something straight. I am a jerk. I am obnoxious. I am lazy. And I don’t care, because I am FILTHY RICH. I am much too important to even be sitting here writing this right now. So I'll keep it short. I make several million dollars every year on the internet, doing almost nothing."
Offensive, yes.
Compelling... absolutely!
So, I kept reading.
I learned very quickly that he's selling his own ebook ... "I’m not here to make friends. I’m here to show you EXACTLY how I make millions."
But before he tells you more about his book, he lambastes the "major" marketing gurus whom he says only make money selling their books, and that they 'crave attention', so they do interviews, appearances and seminars.
The Rich Jerk obviously doesn't appreciate that some students learn better in a lecture-type setting, and that some of those attention-starved gurus might actually enjoy teaching and meeting their students face to face.
Then also goes on to tell us how he's too lazy to read the "1,000 pages of marketing mumbo jumbo" put out by those attention-starved marketing gurus... implying that you shouldn't waste your time doing likewise.
Which explains why his book is only 47 pages long.
Actually, it's only 44 pages if you don't include the title page and the table of contents.
It's also $97.00!
Nine-seven bucks for a 44-page ebook.
More astonishing is the fact that the "Rich Jerk" is selling like hotcakes.
The "Rich Jerk's" ebook rose to #1 in Clickbank's "Money & Employment" category almost overnight... and I confess, I'm one of those who helped put it there.
Although it was mostly a rehash of things I already knew, I did pick up a couple of tips that will be worth much more to me than $97.00.
I don't however think this is the right book for complete newbies. While there are a lot of 'do this' and 'do that' statements; explanations about why and how-to are somewhat scant.
Although, if you're looking for the 'short course' on affiliate marketing tactics, pay-per-click strategies, and search engine optimization techniques; the Rich Jerk offers some good advice.
The section on how to effectively use "Google Adwords" was particularly good.
He also does a good job of explaining how to beat out competing affiliates.
In addition to 'white hat' strategies, the Rich Jerk makes a couple of 'black hat' software recommendations... which I know are used successfully by Internet marketing friends of mine.
BTW, in case you aren't familiar with the term, 'Black Hat' refers to someone who uses and exploits knowlege of system vulnerabilities and exploits them for profit.
The Rich Jerk also covers selling your own information products and selling on eBay... in a nutshell.
Actually, with reference to choosing a topic for information products, he makes a suggestion that runs counter to popular theory, but with which I agree wholeheartedly.
Lastly he devotes a page an a half to e-currencies and high-yield investment programs. Obviously, you can't do justice to those topics in 1.5 pages, so he simply points you to his recommended resources.
All in all - not bad. He delivers on his promise, and I know from experience that his strategies definitely DO work.
But I started this article by asking 'What Can We Learn from the Rich Jerk?'
LOTS!
Look at his branding strategy. It's absolutely brilliant.
In fact, I'm a little peeved that I didn't think of it myself. I could SO EASILY go down that road. :-)
Alas, "TheRichB----.com" was already taken.
Never mind... there are a MILLION more niches to which that strategy can be applied.
Whether you're selling your own product, or as an affiliate, take a branding lesson from the Rich Jerk.
Be OUTRAGEOUS, or FUNNY, or just goofy, but BE somebody... preferably YOURSELF.
The point is to stand apart from the middling crowd and be memorable... like the "Rich Jerk".
Cheers,

OK, so it's not a Ferrari like the "Rich Jerk" drives... and it's not even new... but my Mercedes 500SL (AMG version) is new to me, and it's awesome! Purrs like a lion, moves like a cheetah. :-)
I LOVE affiliate marketing!
