Ros Rants & Raves

Greetings!

I picked a fabulous couple of weeks to be housebound. It's
been COLD here of late, ranging from -20 to -30 degrees
celcius
.

Brrr... cold enough to freeze the uninsulated pipe to my
dishwasher, which the builder wisely decided to place
between the drywall and the outside wall.

Duh.

Oh well, besides washing dishes by hand, I've had lots of
opportunity to do some serious 'Net working, and am
lovin' it!

In this edition of the NPC I discuss affiliate opps outside
the U.S. of A., the advantages of using less popular PPC's,
and a new ezine service that you really should know about
if you haven't started that newsletter yet.

All that, and I'm working on my Vegas presentation, too.

Yup, I'm gonna look MAH-valous. Certainly better than I
do in "Parting Shots" below. :-)

'Til next week, learn and prosper!

Cheers,
Rosalind

P.S. Next week we're talkin' L-O-V-E ... the affiliate programs
that brought in my first emillion, and how they
could do the same for you.

No Newsletter? Now There's NO Excuse!

Are you STILL without your own newsletter because you hate
to write?

You're certainly in good company, and that's why I'm
surprised that no one thought of this before.

My buddy, Ian Herculson, over at TheGuruMarketer.com

Affiliate Marketing Outside the U.S.

Each week I receive questions about the feasibility of
becoming an  affiliate marketer from those who live outside
the U.S.A.

Here are a few...

I have experienced a reluctance with people
staying in South Africa to buy something via the
internet due to delivery problems to Africa. I am
also not sure whether the products or services can
be sold in South Africa? Could you please comment
     on this?
     Appreciative, Braam.

- and -

I live just outside Sydney, Australia. Am I able
to take advantage of this business venture, or is
     it just for US residents??
     M. Martins

- and -

I live in Australia and I was wondering if your
e-book would be relevant for me in here.

Thank you for your help, I look forward to hearing
     from you.

     Kind Regards,
     Sue Roberts

- and well, you get the gist.

Where you live in the world isn't a factor most of the time.

Case in point, I live in Canada and do *pretty well* by
affiliate programs. :-) So does Michael Campbell, author
of Clickin It Rich, a popular self help guide on how to
set up a profitable home based business promoting only
affiliate programs.

Two of the world's best affiliate marketers, Allan Gardyne
and Phil Wiley, live in Australia.

Basically the only time geography is a factor is when a
merchant accepts only U.S. based affiliates.

Too, it helps if you can cash a U.S. dollar check where
you live.

Geographic location of potential customers shouldn't
shouldn't affect you as an affiliate.

If customers in South Africa, or anywhere else, are
reluctant to buy online, that's up to the merchant to
solve.

The beauty of the Internet is that your site is open to
customers from around the planet, 24 hours a day, 365
days a year. Sell to anyone, sell to everyone, there are few
borders on the 'Net.

Your goal therefore should be to make your site friendly
for all, without geographic or other limiting constraints.

That, and cashing those U.S. Dollar checks. :-)

Why Use the Less Popular PPC's?

Here's a question about PPC's...

Hi Rosalind, this is Tomas Loden over in Sweden

First, thank you for Super Affiliate Handbook.
     Full of great info!!

Rosalind, I just don't get it...    What
difference does it make which ppc search engine
someone found  me on? I mean why would i get tons
of sales on Overture and zero on Findwhat, 7search
     and Goclick?

I always have a better click through using
Overture... and more sales as well.

     - Are the people different who use Findwhat,
       7search and Goclick?

     - What is the difference between someone
searching for "dating services" at Overture or
some other engine. It's pretty obvious they are
       searching for the same thing.

Who on earth would use 7Search or GoClick to find
stuff? Obviously,  pretty much 100% of people who
search use results provided by  Google, Inktomi,
     AltaVista, AllTheWeb and Teoma.

So, you will often find it's only webmasters that
     use those search engines?

     What's your take on this?

Thank you for your valuable time,
     Tomas Loden
     http://www.internet-dating-search.com/

Here are Alexa ratings for some of those 'lesser-known' PPC's.

7Search   - 1394
Enhance   - 8878
Findwhat  -  944
GoClick     - 2167
Kanoodle  - 1068
Search123 - 3202

My guess is that it would be impossible to get an Alexa
rating of 944, 1068 or 1394 if only webmasters were
visiting the site.

Too, a click is a click, and a sale is a sale, regardless
of their origin.

If your site converts the term 'barbie doll' at 1 sale per
100 visitors, I'd  rather see my visitors come from Enhance
at 3 cents per click than Overture at a cost of 25 cents per
click.

Contrary to Tomas' experience, my sites get excellent
traffic from the less popular PPC's. So much so that I
invest about a third of my monthly advertising budget in
PPC's other than Overture.

For me, it's a matter of dollar cost averaging. Despite
Overture's minimum bid of 10 cents, my overall cost per
click is still around 6 cents, primarily BECAUSE I use
Findwhat, Kanoodle and several other good PPC's.

ah-ha.com to end Grandfather period

Speaking of less popular PPC's, Enhance Interactive
(formerly ah-ha.com)  established a minimum click price of
$0.03 for all paid keyword listings effective December 1,
2003.

They also instituted a "grandfather period" which will end
on March 1, 2004. At that time, all click prices that are
still below $0.03 will be automatically raised to $0.03.

If you have an enhance.com account, I recommend that you
manually raise your sub-$0.03 click prices to $0.03 or
higher before March 1st, to avoid the automatic update.

Doing that will put you at the TOP of the 3 cent bidders,
instead of at the bottom.
